In the context of a brewpub, where non-craft drinkers might be found, it could make sense. I'm not curious enough to try local AALstyle craft beers. I'm not a big fan of most of the craft lagers that I've tried (I do like Great Lakes lagers), so don't have much hope for an AAL style lager that I'd like. And, for a basic product, they are costly. Been there, done that in the 70s. Life is short (hopefully not too short). More productive investigations await.

Whatever the opposite of an appreciation thread is, this is it. Will this be the next trend on BA?

I've been doing my best to throw in some token appreciations. Just being contrary, I guess. Nowadays, I hate the waste of a good beer drinking opportunity that would occur with my consumption of AAL. I don't hate the AAL itself (I wish I owned Constellation stock).

I don’t like beer brewed with corn as one of its ingredients because I don’t like beer that tastes like corn. When I read or hear that a beer has a flavor of sweet corn, cream corn, or cooked corn I associate these flavors with the AAL beer style. In my experience as the beer warms the corn flavor becomes more pronounced and adds an offensive sour corn element to the beer as well. Yuengling is a prime example of this sour corn flavor aftertaste I dislike.

Both of you make a valid point in terms of cost and whereas I agree there are plenty overpriced craft beer the two local examples I used and enjoy both are very affordable. Both I mentioned cost $9.99 each, one is six pack the other four. For comparison that is only $2.00 more than say, a six of Banquet Beer or Yuengling, as two examples of prices around here.

But yes to your point there are plenty breweries charging more for beer that, I agree, isn't worth of the upcharge at all.

I'd say that the allure is in the feel and finish. But that's only when done right

It probably depended on where you grew up, but I don't remember a time when there wasn't dark lagers, Guinness, bocks in spring or Oktoberfests in fall.

Wow. The “I hate Hamm’s and all beers like it” thread (as it should have been named :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:) might get more pages than the Hamm’s appreciation thread.

Genny Bock was about it. Mid-70s, Prior Double Dark showed up, and I remember liking it fairly well.

I will occasionally buy a brick of Coors or a case of Rainier for guests but that’s about it. Plus, on a hot summer’s day a couple of ‘em aren’t too unbearable!

It does depend on location. In Oregon in 1969, there were some imports, but not in supermarkets (no beer in liquor stores) or taverns. There were no domestic bocks or fest beers. Only ale was Rainier, and not good at all. Domestic dark beers tasted like the local pale lagers, maybe worse.

What is a brick of Coors? I’ve never heard that term used before.

I have zero hate for an AAL. On a hot summer day or simply as a “palate cleanser “ between “good” beers they are perfect.

I personally prefer the Macro AAL’s over any Craft version simply because more times than not there is little to no difference in the taste but a big difference in price.
    If I can pay $5 for a 6 pack of Hamm’s, why would I pay $11 for a 4 pack of xyz’s AAL?

A 30 pack = one brick. A guy that owns a liquor store told me that once and so it stuck in my mind. I don’t know if these are correct but I’ve been told by other people that
    12 pack = short-case
    24 pack = case
Also, may I propose that a 15 pack should now be called a “half-brick”?

maybe a coors 30 pack is a gold brick? a four pack is a sixth pack (4/24).
