I think I like Euro Pale lagers but dislike AALs. Aside from location however I’m not sure what the difference is. I tend to find Euros use corn syrup which I find less disgusting than rice which is what a lot of AALs use.

As for AALs I don’t mind - I was okay with Pabst Blue Ribband.

I don't hate them, because I don't ever expect one to be something it can't be.

Busch Lite takes me back 30-35 years to the "illegal consumption" and "legal but dead-ass broke consumption" eras. Still tastes and costs the same, relatively speaking. Mediocre but cheap and tasty when it's cold and the weather is hot.

Fair State makes a pretty good one ("Crankin' Foamers") although as many have noted, "good" AALs are pricey compared with their macro cousins.

I don't them at all. Time and a place for everything. Their time is during the summer when you're having a drink outside while doing something physical. Lawnmower beer is the absolute best term anyone ever came up with to describe this situation.

When it's free in the corporate tent at a PGA event would be my answer. But otherwise, I have never paid for a Michelob Ultra and never will. Wait, I take that back, I may have paid for an Ultra for someone else.

If they were meant to be savored and enjoyed they wouldn’t be available in 24 packs.

Yes, beers are rarely packaged as a case.

When I first moved here 24 years ago, I heard folks call 12 packs "half racks". I'd ask if they called cases "racks". No one ever did. Life is full of mysteries.

Have never understood this. Why not just get a nice pils, helles lager or a Czech lager? Abv. will be roughly the same, you'll still get that sense of refreshment, and the beer will have a decent amount of flavor. Just sayin...

I like some and I look for deals. No social stigma. Nowadays many aren't worth the money.

I didn't know that Sly Fox brewed Reading now. Do you know if they are using the original recipe from the original Reading brewery?

Reading was my godfather's beer of choice and, as a result, it was one of the first beers that I ever drank. If it is the same recipe, I'll pick up a sixer just for old time sake.

We've all the seen the person at the local bottle shop who doesnt browse the store and heads straight for the cooler and grabs some AAL beer and heads straight for the checkout. You cant do that with those beers you mentioned and you actually have to look for and search for them and most people cant be bothered. Maybe if your local bottle shop cooler was stocked with nice pils, helles lager, and czech lagers instead of being buried on dusty shelves things would be different.

Well, in the US the number of imported Euro macro beers commonly found has been shrinking (in some cases with the AB-InBev beers now brewed domestically) but most have been marketed here have been all-malt - or, in some cases, just ignore adjunct use in advertising or labeling. I can't think of any that used rice. And in the US, it's pretty much only AB's Budweiser that still uses rice with most other macro AAL's brewed with corn syrup (all the big Molson Coors beers) or some other form of corn - grits, flakes, etc.

That was not always the case - rice was a very common adjunct half a century ago, with many still well known brewers' brands like Coors, Schlitz, Yuengling, Rheingold, Heileman, Olympia, etc., using Rice as an Adjunct.

I don’t hate them, I’d just rather spend my money on stuff I like better. But if someone offers me one, or if a couple wind up in my fridge, I’ll absolutely drink them with no complaint.

“Why not just get a craft lager”

the cost is not remotely the same. Particularly if you’re hosting a BBQ or something and buying in bulk
