So, will be in town for a few days visiting my Dad. I have been to Black Market and have had some Ironfire beers and one Aftershock. Having a BBQ on Sunday. Out of all the Temecula breweries, which one has the best IPA I can pick up in a growler? Any good Berliner Weiss or Gose?

Just looking for something solid and good for a hot day around the pool.

I've read some good things about Refuge, like their Blood Orange Wit. I enjoyed what I've had at Black Market. I had several Ironfire brews at a tasting at Holiday Wine Cellar last year and they weren't bad. Just wondering what some of the locals think.

    Thanks in advance

Weins Brewery is new in Temecula, they are pretty decent shelf beers.

Do they have growler fills of Insomnia?

Garage Brewing... They open earliest. Their Incline IPA is money. Refuge always has BA beers on tap. Those are the two I'd recommend.

Weins is one of the older ones now. Electric city is the newest

They do yes. In fact they have disposable plastic growlers for those who may not make it back.

Have you been to the new Aftershock tasting room? It's bigger then the old one, and not only do they have a lot more on tap then they use too, their quality has continued to improve as well. I did a self made Temecula/Murrerita Brewery tour a few months back over a weekend. We went to Weins, refuge, Ironfire, Garage, & Aftershock. We split taster flights with a group of 8 at every stop, so we got a really good sense of all of those breweries beers, at least what they had on tap at the time. Garage has some great light beers, and growler fills, which would work for what your looking for, but for my money, I really do recomend Aftershock, especially if you have only had one of their beers. In any case, enjoy the visit, and hope you find something you enjoy.

There's Karl Strauss that opened up recently too. I heard their Mosaic Session is pretty good, might be worth checking out.

Oh, just to add, I didn't mention black market, only since others already had, but for my two cents on them, they are the most established one in the area, and make excellent beers as well, certainly can't go wrong going to black market either, I've been there multiple times (which is why I skipped them on my last tour)

BM is the only one in Temecula I've actually been to. Beertender chick was super cool.

Aftershock does predominately stouts. Ironfire is EX-Ballast Point, so they do some really lovely hoppy beers. Refuge is a decent Belgian style brewery. Their lighter styles like the Blood Orange Wit are pretty much gauged at the shock top crowd, but they do some interesting barrel aged beers.

So this is one area I have not checked out yet. I recently had Wiens Cogs DIPA out of the bottle. I thought it was good. A little more maltier than I like but good. Maybe Insomnia is better? I've had Ironfire ipa. Nothing special. Too malty.
I would like to visit the area soon. My question is which 3 or 4 brewery's should I hit up? IPA's of course, stouts/porters, good Belgian ales and Weissen.

Hands down Refuge is a Belgian Brewery, that HAS to be on the list. Garage has a solid Incline IPA, Mango Hef and a dark roasted Oatmeal Stout. I find their IPA is more of the citrus style than the rest are doing out here (aside from Karl Strauss Session IPA). Black Market has a great core of beers, however they are usually out of their Quad, which I think is great. I'd skip, Bulldog, Weins (RIGHT next to Refuge) and Lewis. Ironfire usually has interesting beers on tap that are worthy of a visit (thin mint stout, habanero IPA, Barrel-aged offerings) I usually check their facebook to see what's going on

They used to have one in Temecula called Blind Pig Brewing Company that had a bit of potential.

Hit Refuge and Wiens (right next to each other), Ironfire, and Karl Strauss for food and Mosaic Session IPA.
