So I am in need of a temporary beer cellar. I do not have an extra room or basement with consistent temperatures to keep my beers. So I am currently storing my beers in a wooden piece of furniture that has a door on the front.

Could I pad the inside of this piece of furniture with styrofoam or insulation to moderate temperatures? Or is there another easier way besides having a fridge specifically for aging beers?

Go on craigslist and pick up a cheap used refrigerator. With an extra 50-80 dollars you can modify the fridge to keep at a desired temperature.

When I'm temporarily cellaring beer, it's usually in my bladder.

For longer term aging, I try to find a place with a more stable temperature. Insulation might help, but it won't withstand the changes of the seasons, not the most optimal place, but playaz gotta play.

I ran into the problem of impending warm weather and realized there was only one answer - bite the bullet and buy a small fridge if you don't have a permanently cool location in your home. You can do it on a budget by getting a small deep freeze for next to nothing on craigslist and buying a temperature controller for it. I spent a little more and got an entry level "beverage center", which is a wine cooler with the racks swapped out for glass shelves.

Define "temporary". Padding with styro/insulation really won't do anything so that is out. If your situation isn't going to change any time soon, then I would look for a used fridge and get a temp controller. If it's only going to be a month or two, I would just put them in the coolest, darkest place in your house or even keep them in your current fridge (i'd rather slow the aging process than ruin some good beers.)

Thanks for the help, I'll probably end up finding a cheap fridge and using that. I was hoping there might be another solution but it seems a fridge is easiest and best.
