I am currently trying to put together a long term cellar solution so right now have all my beers in cardboard boxes. I am leaving town for a few weeks and it looks like mid 70s all week. The basement (its really an unfinished bottom floor as it sits on grade not below) is about 60-64 degrees if it doesn't get too hot. The few questions I have would be

1- Is it better to store the BA stouts, barleywines blends and other 10+ abv big beers down there? Or stick as many in the empty fridge which is at around 42F. I will keep the sours, wild ales and few beers with brettanomyces in the fridge as a few people have said those need to be near 45 degrees

2- If putting them downstairs should I open the top of the boxes to keep air circulation on the bottles vs a closed enviroment?

    Thanks!

A few weeks at 60-64 degrees won't do very much to your stouts, barleywines, high ABV beers. I would definitely be inclined to store any more fragile beers at a lower temperature (IPAs, etc), but you have nothing to worry about over the course of just a few weeks for bigger beers.

    Air circulation doesn't matter.

Keep them out of the sun or direct light.
