HopsDirect sold out of Amarillo and Citra pellets in 10 minutes. I just wanted a pound of Amarillo, but I guess its not to be. Ruined my day. Anybody else have feelings about this?

Same here. I called them at 11 am EST thinking they'd be on the website for sale but was told they would be on the website at 5pm PST. I got on the site a few minutes ago and damn guess I was too late. Wondering how many pounds were for sale in the first place now.

This is why I bought leaf hops, even though I prefer pellets in most cases.

Problem understood, but at least now many can but these hops properly sealed at our LHBS.

I ended up getting lucky and getting a pound of Citra and Amarillo, tossed in some Centennial and Belma pellets for good measure.

It's all the pellet I've bought this year, the rest was leaf.

My buddy bought me another pound of Amarillo since he knew I'd want it and they still had it. Apparently, they had like 150lbs of each was it. I'm sure they'll have more in the future, so don't freak out.

The Cascade and Centennial were really low, and are limited to #1, #2 for the Cascade, and both were updated tonight from low to mid 100's of lbs to over 400-500lbs a pop.

I checked the site every 30 minutes for over 8 hours and got the shaft. Not happy about it of course but dems da breaks. Another thing that kind of pissed me off is this staggered release schedule they are doing. Releasing a limited number of strains on certain Fridays instead of putting all of the 2012 crop of pellets up at once. The end result would be me paying for shipping multiple times which sucks. I order in bulk from hops direct to save money so this format cuts into that by resulting in extra shipping charges.

I predict better values later this hop year...in the mean time (and possibly all year), I'm trying some hops I haven't used before.

Bought a pound each of chinook, centennial, Columbus, citra, goldings, and belma (new variety). Was watching the page all day. FYI, it said there was only 150 lbs of citra when I purchased. That's not much.

As do I, which is why I'm not huffing and puffing over it. I stocked up pretty good on what I have so far, and as much as I brew, I have enough for some serious hoppy beers for probably close to the whole year.

There's more Citra and Amarillo out there. My LHBS still has piles of 2011 whole leaf Citra in the freezers in 1 oz Hop Union bags... same for the pellets.

They don't grow Citra on the farm. Maybe they were only able to get a few bales. A bale is about 200 lbs.

Edit - I am waiting for the Euro hops to come in. The LHBS also has a good relation with the supplier that has a contract for hops. They had all the scarce ones all year. Not as cheap, but I still have some of those in the freezer from last year, no need to buy more pounds of those.

I am glad I chose to not pursue the Amarillo this year, first time in five years without a pound of them. Centennial, Cascade and Belma will get me going. Chinook and Cascade will get me through.

Maybe Summit, Glacier and Columbus (got tired if these though) as well.

I also tried to get some but failed. So I got some extra belma (since it was so cheep), and a few pounds of some other hops too :grinning:

How often do you guys brew? The amount of hops you're talkin' about seen insane to me. What does a man do with a hundred ounces of hops?

20 batches a year takes care of that and more.

I try to brew or bottle a batch every weekend or almost every weekend. Albeit I only brew 3.5-4.0 gallons at a time, but still, a hobby's a hobby undefined
