Local beer shop has both 2014 and 2015 versions of TenFIDY (marked accordingly, same price). Is there much of a difference that anyone noticed from last years to this years'?

    No.

I mean there's going to be a difference now, because of age. But they are the same beer.

My first one ever was a 2014. Now I have 8 cans, sorry 7 cans of 2015. Lol. It was just as good as I remembered the first. Not too hot or anything. Get one of each!

How much are they btw? Here it's 15.50 for a 4 pack. Most expensive beer I've had yet. But it's worth it haha

    $10.99 a 4-pack? That's a great price. Most shops in STL sell it for roughly $14 - $15 a 4-pack.

If I had that opportunity, I would buy both years and do a side-by-side, but that's just me. I just bought a 4-pack of the 2014, and when I sampled it, it was fantastic. Anyway, it is supposed to be a great beer for cellaring.

In my experiences, the fresh '15 is going to be better. I find that most normal Imperial Stouts are best fresh and sometimes really good with several years. I find they tend to get a little 'weird' between 6 months and 1-1.5 years. I feel like it's the fact that you get a bit of an old hop flavor and the rest of the beer hasn't really aged enough to change the flavor profile.

I found Ten Fidy a little better after a year of age. Imperial stouts are generally believed to develop without soy-sauce or cardboard flavours up to 1.5 years. I wouldn't push it too far though. Buy both and see what you think!

I think it's pretty clear he means there isn't a difference in production between years.

    Listen here you jerkface!

I'm just kidding, but yes, as AugustusRex said, I was implying that the production was the same.

I've been having Ten Fidy for years now and it's my favorite stout. I haven't noticed any change in quality. Every year I have it, and every year it blows me away.

But there IS a difference. It is a non question. Does it age well to a point? Yes. I would buy fresh.

After 1 year, yes I would say there is a difference. Not significant, mind you, but there is a difference.

But the impression I got from the OP was that he was asking if there was a difference in quality when the beers were released, which as far as I'm concerned, there wasn't.

If that is not the case, then I'm an idiot and will crawl back into my hole with my overpriced beer.

Yeah, all beers will change batch to batch, but some differences are more significant. Bourbon County often has a difference in abv, Rodenbach Vintage is sourced from different barrels, Backwoods Bastard apparently now has higher abv, some beers have different hop varietals between years, (Duvel Triple Hop) some are announced as having recipe changes etc.

While there are some counterexamples, I think most beers are brewed to have a consistent and recognizable flavour profile. I have found Ten FIDY to fit into that category.

I have tried Ten Fidy from the cellar at 1, 2, and 3 years. We all know that many stouts seem to get better with age. Ten Fidy is NOT one of those. Fresh is best in this case. It changes very little and not for the best. Don't get suckered into paying extra for Ten Fidy from a store's "cellar."

$10.99 for 4, lucky people! I pay around that for 1 over here. Worth every penny.

Back on topic, I'd buy the fresh personally. The older cans I had in the house weren't as good as the current batch after sitting in the fridge for 9 months.
