My parents are taking a trip to Tennessee. Anyone have any good beer suggestions that are from Tennessee.? Any good IPA's?

Can't suggest any IPAs, but Blackstone Chocolate Milk Stout is pretty damn good. I also have a bottle of Blackstone Black Belle. BBA Imperial Stout with Cacao Nibs. Yet to crack it open. To be honest Yazoo Sue was a disappointment.

    Available in cans:
Gotta Get Up to Get Down (stout)
    Jackalope Thunder Ann APA

Personally, I like Good People IPA - from Alabama, but my favorite closest packaged IPA

What part of TN? There's a big difference between Memphis and Knoxville (6-7hr drive). Memphis and Nashville will be the best beer cities IMO. I'm a native memphian and will definitely suggest some Wiseacre brews. Gotta get up to get down, and tiny bomb are great. Yazoo is doing some cool stuff right now as well. Other than that, Terrapin and Good people both distribute to nashville and are worth picking up. Not sure on other Nashville breweries stuff available in package. Wiseacre, memphis made, and ghost river out of memphis all have package, but wiseacre is the only one you can get outside of memphis.

IPAs I've only had wiseacre Ananda and Yazoo's hop project, so I can't be much help there. But hopsecutioner and good people IPA are both good.

Like many breweries, some of the best beers aren't distributed. Some of the best are growler only. Yazoo's Hopry is a good example (although I understand that it may be eventually bottled)

Blackstone adam bomb is solid. Cool springs brewery hop brutality is a really good dipa imo also they have one called pecker wrecker that is pretty good

Today I had a great IPA from a new Nashville brewery: Habit from Bearded Iris. Best IPA I have had locally. Only on tap at this point.

I agree with Buck completely on Habit IPA - it is outstanding. Easily best I have had in TN.

I had Bearded Iris at The Pharmacy yesterday. I must echo the sentiments, outstanding beer. I hope it gets canned in the future.

I'm headed down to TN for a week's vacation in about two weeks. Planning on hitting up Nashville and Chattanooga. Does anyone know if I'll be able to pick up any Yazoo Embrace the Funk bottles while I'm there? I assume that Deux Rouges will not be available, but any others? Also, can someone confirm that if I want Astronaut Status I'll need to trade?

    Thanks.

    I think they
Believe they bottled a Berliner in the last week or two. You can probably find Delicieux, assuming you want to pay the $10/bottle that the shops in town were charging. Deux Rouges is not around unless you trade for it.

They have indomitus dolium at the tap room still and they just released a berliner last week that maybe will be still floating around. You will def have to trade for astro status. They have been selling some of the 22 oz releases for on site consumption the last few times i have been at the tap room as well. I might have an extra bottle of deux if you wanna make a trade . You never know , they might release some bottles while you are here as well !!

IPA selection sucks in TN. The few mentioned are okay, but not noteworthy. Because of TN's wacky ABV laws (6.7%+ liquor store only) most of the common IPAs / DIPAs don't distribute here. When you go to Chattanooga you need to plan a trip to Beverage World in Ft. Oglethorpe GA. It is about 30min drive from downtown Chatt. BY FAR the best selection in the area and worth the trip. Another option - Most serious IPA drinkers in Chattanooga road trip to Atlanta though (2hrs) to Hop City in Atlanta - best beer store in the South IMHO. Probably 200 or more different IPAs, 60 tap growler station, buy singles from ANY six pack.

Seriously, this is def the place that hoppy beers dont seem to make it to. And it def has to do with that stupid law. When the wine law go through in a year, does the cap on abv for beer rise also?? Please say yes

Unfortunately, Tennessee limits "beer" to 5% ABW or less (approx 6.25% ABV). Law isn't scheduled to change until Jan 1, 2017, 6 months after the wine bill goes into effect. Then it'll go to 8% ABW or less.

Astronaut Status was a limited release last winter so you will have to trade if you can find anybody sitting on some.

Although,Wiseacre was in Chicago last weekend at a festival and they brought some different brews including a case of Astronaut Status to Haymarket taproom. So if you know anyone in Chicago, AS is a must trade.
