Did a little side by side of 512 and DEBC today.

I thought DEBC had more of that bite (not unlike Stone) and 512 has the fruity apricot aftertaste. I really liked them both and am very happy to have both... I can't decide which I'd rather have.

Anyone else care to chime in?

Southern Star Pro-Am 2012 & Saint Arnold Endeavour should be on the list.

I think a fresh Endeavour is the best Texas DIPA you can get. Unfortunately PA2012 is done for the year and the last 4-pack I bought was starting to go over the hill.

Interestingly these are all DIPAs... the best single IPA for my money is Austin Beerworks' Fire Eagle IPA hands down.

That said I know a few places that serve $2.50-$4.00 pints of (512) IPA. That's the best deal and it's always available fresh in Austin.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on the first two you listed since I haven't had them yet but I agree with Lutter. Fresh Endeavor is delicious, my vote, and I have seen a lot of good things about Bodacious. I have a bottle of Bodacious, I just haven't opened it yet to try it.

I agree about the lack of options but I would pick (512) over any other in Texas.

Endeavour is the best Texas IPA or dIPA I've tried.

Fresh Pro Am was quite tasty and one hell of a beer for the money.

Middleton Brewing's west coast IPA is the best Texas IPA. The rest I've had have been malt heavy and mediocre.

Yea I was aiming for IPA's instead of IIPA's.

And no I'm not new to IPA's...I was just wondering which hits everyone palates best. I personally go between the two very often..today was just the first time I did a side by side. I haven't tried the ABW and Stash is good but not in the same league.

I'd love to side-by-side some fresh Pliny and fresh Endeavour... I expect the results might be shocking.

I'm going to throw in real ales lost gold as an amazing balanced ipa, always enjoy it on tap. As far as over the top west coast iPas go I'm probably going to have to give the nod to 512 along with fire eagle being awfully close

How bout side by side with Heady? I think it would be fun to have some VT and CA people take part in a blind tasting. I'm not being a Texas homer cause I think Heady wins hands down. Sorry SA..... :-(

It took less than 6 hours for someone to drop both Pliny and HT into a conversation about TX IPA's. Go figure

This thread would be complete if someone chimed in asking if they should cellar their IPA or someone ISO Pliny the Younger.

Offically calling myself out on a topic fail.

Oh cmon, how can one not compare it to the "gold standard"?

I like to think our Texas beer compares to the hyped up white whale IPAs from the east and west coast. It's demeaning to say we can't compare our beer to the rest of the country.

Lost Gold IPA is good...I think. I just realized that I have had almost no Texas IPAs.

Fair enough. HT is my only perfect beer. Endeavour is on par with Abrasive, Hopslam, Sucks, and Pliny at that world class shelf beer level. But again those are all big beers and not really IPA's.

I assume the gold standard for shelf-ish IPA's is Zombie Dust and neither DEBC nor 512 are close.
