At first I read this as "shellfish" IPA and thought some madman was putting oysters in IPAs.

    (512) is pretty close in my opinion. I prefer it to Zombie Dust (NOT AN IPA)

First batch of LO's Libertation was the best Texas IPA -they haven't duplicated it since.
512 could take the crown but their batches taste different, I like it when the tropical fruit notes come through.
ABW's Fire Eagle is nice as is RA's Lost Gold.

Pliny is a different animal on tap. I've had bottles that were less than a week old, and it wasn't the same.

Okay, this is bugging me. Did you mean DEDC (Dreamcrusher)? Because I can't for the life of me figure out what DEBC is. If that's the case, I give a slight nod to Dreamcrusher over (512). That shit is seriously delicious.

I'm going to assume OP means Deep Ellum Brewing Company. I'm going to go with Deep Ellum by a hair. Both Deep Ellum and 512 are very solid brews.

Deep Ellum Brewing Company. He was just referring to the brewery, as he already said he was talking about their IPA.

Plus, Dreamcrusher is a DIPA. Not sure why people took this in that direction, when he was clearly talking IPA's only. I would assume most of the "other" votes in the poll are for DIPA as well.

May as well shut it down.

Dang...that's exactly why we all deserve a pass. Beer categories are so tough to define...with my half ass poll no wonder it got muddled.

They are tough to define because brewers are pushing the limit of each style. Where exactly is the cut off point from APA to IPA?

Ah, that's what I get for getting on BA before I've had my morning coffee. Deep Ellum's IPA is very solid, and I'd put it neck-and-neck with (512). I'm not sure if I'd call either of them the best TX IPA, but they're definitely up there.

Sadly, I never got to try the original Liberation from Live Oak, but I really enjoyed the IPA they replaced it with during the hop shortage, more so than the "new" Liberation. I also enjoyed the hell out of No Label's Mint IPA even though the mint was barely detectable. And of course, Freetail makes some amazing IPAs (Tadarida, Soul Doubt, Buffalo Hump, Round Earth, etc). Long story short, I don't think I could pick just one TX IPA as my favoritie.

I'm trying to think of all the IPAs in the state

    Karback - Hopadillo
Freetail - soul doubt, buffalo hump, Red Rooster, Tadarida, Round Earth, etc.
    Live Oak - Liberation
    512 - IPA
DEBC - IPA (I guess that's its name)
    SA - Ellisa
    ABW - Fire Eagle
    RA - Lost Gold
    Independence - Stash
    Jester King - Wytchmaker

Feel free to add that's about all I can think of ATM. These are also just single IPAs not IIPAs

This thread just created a perfect opportunity for us to announce one of our big plans for 2013: We're going to do a Seasonal IPA series.

Our first hop contract is coming through for next year, so we'll have access to hops we've never had before - Citra, Simcoe, etc. We're really happy with Fire Eagle and don't want to mess with it, so we just decided to make some new IPAs. The plan is to have them available on draft and in 4-packs of tallboys, the first of which will hopefully be out by February. The goal is to release 4 different recipes throughout 2013.

Hopefully they'll make your lists the next time a thread like this pops up.

Great news from Austin Beer Works!

I think Stash is a very worthy IPA since the re-formulation. Very "West Coast" to my nose and pallet.
