Don't you have insider friends that can answer this instead of asking here?

Understood. I don't recall what the savings is on growlers, but I do know you get a larger mug on the non-special pours. At $50 a membership, you have to be a [reasonably frequent] regular to get that buy-in back and start saving.

Absolutely do-able, but if that is all you get with the mug club, why have member a limit on it? Why not sell unlimited memberships to everybody and anybody who wants one? There is the college element, but with the new location I suspect the college draw has to be somewhat decreased due to proximity, and when I was in college it was often quantity over quality. If I'm paying $50 for cheaper beer, I'm well aware I want to buy more beer to at least break even on my investment. Seems like a pretty good deal for TG.

I'm a MC member, I'm not complaining, I'll re-up again this year if able. That said, I don't think it's unreasonable for MC'ers to anticipate a nod in the way of access to some modest combination of special beers, newsletters, VIP tours?, member-only clothing purchases? etc. We get occasional access to lottery beers, and it's great.

All this is to say when comments like the one I quoted pop up I aways think, "yeah, but..." Am I alone in some confusion about the nature of this stuff?

I'm guessing with how many new mug club spots opened up back in September, the only limited beer access will be MD from now on. It also seems Assassin is very limited this year or they're trying to get as many people in as possible. 1 bottle limit.

"In an email, Clark Lewey, owner of Toppling Goliath, told Tenemu that Assassin 2019 will be be packaged in 22-ounce bottles priced at $50 each, with attendees at the release events limited to one bottle each. According to Lewey, there is also the possibility of additional variants of the stout being made available during the release event, although details are still being finalized."

If it’s one bottle it wouldn’t be worth it to me to even try. Granted I don’t live nearby but I’ve made the trek for past releases.

I got a ticket today at the brewery, they said there where 100 made available. They appeared to run out around 1:30ish. It sounds like there will be Smores Assassin, Coffee Assassin, and two other "surprise" barrel aged beers made available for pours that day. I'm not sure if these will be additional Assassin variants or other beers from their line up. They said each person will get two pours with your ticket. No idea about glassware. One bottle limit.

I'm really happy to see TG selling tickets for this event to locals instead of raffling them all off to people around the world. It's been disappointing for some people that have supported TG from the beginning to largely get shut out of their releases.

There shouldn't be too much griping other than from individuals who want to score multiple bottles and live relatively far away. For people in that category who want to make this exclusively about obtaining the beer and nothing else, it would be hard to justify the cost of the beer, as well as the expense and hassle of getting there. But if you want to go to TG + Pulpit Rock, and make a fun event/weekend out of it, it works out great. I generally use the limited releases as an excuse to go to Decorah and have a fun time at these events/establishments. The limited beer is a great bonus, whether one, two or three bottle allotment.

As a side note, through sheer dumb blind luck I just happened to be 40 minutes away from Decorah yesterday (I left Chicago at 6A.M.) when the Assassin on-site ticket sales were announced to be starting at 11A.M. When I got there 10 minutes before open, I was 15th in line. It was basically me and all locals. I was originally going to Decorah to claim my Mug Club membership after a 4+ year wait and so it just worked out perfectly the day I picked to go there. I was going to go the Saturday before, but due to the large snow storm that came through on that day I postponed my trip by a week to yesterday. Now I'm thrilled to have an excuse to come back in a month+ and enjoy the weekend.

Looks like You can buy two tickets if you are fortunate enough to get in tomorrow. That helps.

Well... I went into the queue for about 20 seconds before being able to secure session 3 tickets. That was surprisingly easy.
