I would agree with you based on my experiences there. The locals have caught on that these stouts are a big deal. The locals "in the know" have their mug club buddies grab them bottles and they reimburse them in Dorothy's. They know they can make a quick $20 by muling a couple bottles and when they are already in the taproom, why wouldn't they? All they have to do is lift up their hand and say, "Hey, I'll take a couple bottles of whatever that stuff is." Turn around and sell it to someone from the TC or Chicago or Des Moines for $80? No brainer for a local.

If they catch on that they can flip it online for much, much more then that's not good for the folks that make the trip, but it's really inevitable, IMO.

Care to expand on this? Man, I'm still confused. Honestly, during all of the lead-up, I was very prepared for it to be a tier bellow Assassin. But, personal palette/preference obviously, I also surprisingly found myself in the "slightly tastier than Assassin" camp.

The rumors about it being extra-aged Assassin are just that: rumors. Clark was pressed hard in the taproom, multiple times, about what this beer was, and he never said that's what it was. He wouldn't say. Murph wouldn't say. And I can't imagine Mike is talking. The truth is, no one knows what this beer is other than an imperial stout aged in barrels.

So, no offense to shawn, but I can't imagine his New York info is better than our Decorah info.

Only to people who live there! My best friend lives in Mac-Groveland, so I always say he's from Highland Park because I know how much he loves that...

These TG threads never disappoint - We haven't had a "unknown TG beer" controversy since that guy put an unknown beer into those empty Assassin bottles and recapped and redipped em.

Mystery Beer belongs to Monday nights at Whistle Binkies.

Maybe they hired him to fill up the bottles with random beer? What if no one had the same beer, every bottle had something different in them? MYSTERY...
I kid I kid... That would be aweful.. And very very wrong

That seems to be what Fantome does and nobody seems to mind too much.

Having one right now and I think, "wow, this doesn't taste like King sue or look like King sue". It's good but definitely not King. Super sweet and almost syrupy. I wouldn't be surprised if they intended it to be King but it's not.

If it started as King and Mike walked out on it then TG had no idea how to finish it. That also means we won't see th King again until Mike is back at it. Maybe not anything the way it was if this is the case.

I had my last bottle of King in January and it was still the same outstanding, juicy, hazy beer it started as. Didn't seem to have fallen off at all.

Compared to Clark's Tweet a week or so ago. Looks like a glass of Golden Nugget next to a bottle of King Sue.

Just wondering what the big deal is about this beer and any other that people are willing to trade away so much.

As much as he likes holding back bottles of his own beer to increase trade value?

    Give me a break.

If I recall correctly Clark tweeted that it was from the last batch of King Sue as well, maybe it was a tweet in response to question but you get the idea.

I can say as a "local" who has 4 bottles of SR-71....... I am not "selling" any of it. I am sending it for a trade out east. I could care less about "what I can get" for it. I know the guy I trade with will send me a good box of vermont area beers. I spent $100 on 4 bottles. I am sure I will get about that back - that is plenty for me.
In regard to the new IIPA being like King Sue...... I don't think so. Not even in the ball park. I would put King Sue in one of the top 5 beers I have ever had in my life. I bought a growler of the new IIPA..... mainly out of curiousity...... It was ok. $30 a growler? What a total F'ing joke. It was nowhere near King Sue. I did not even finish my growler. I dumped the last third. King Sue was so good...... I would have almost licked it off the table if I had spilled some. This was nowhere near as good. Too sweet. Hops were a bit weird. Almost and "unfinished" flavor to it. It was fine - but it was absolutely not worth what they charged for it. At the current moment, they are WAY better at hyping beer than they are at brewing it.

That's the big question, though. Was it an attempt at King Sue?! An attempt that fell...short, by the sounds of it.
