Even with insider info, I've always wondered why it just sits empty. http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20141114/BLOG57/141119460 Nice to see someone finally doing something with the old space.
Interesting read. I was just over there a couple of weeks ago and went walking along the trail adjacent to it with my brother and his daughter. The brewery just kind of looms over things. As a local landmark, I'd be sad to see it torn down, so hopefully it works out. One thing that definitely needs to be done is stabilize the really old, original brewery building. It's now among the oldest buildings in Washington state
I just went looking for info as to how old the really old portion of the brewery is and came across this: http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...TRMAAAAIBAJ&sjid=MvkDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3836,4441183 Whoa!
Okay, after some looking around the interweb, turns out the old brewhouse isn't quite as old as I thought (1906), though it's still fairly old for a state as young as Washington. Regarding the now-almost-quaint sex scandal I referenced above (I gotta admit I love that there was also a politician and and a Liquor Board official implicated), I can't help but wonder if it contributed to the Schmidt family's decision to sell the brewery a couple of years later.
