?

Could you limit yourself to a $50/month beer budget?

Pretty much my budget right now too- a nice sixer and mayb ea nice bomber per weekend or a couple other one off more expensive beers. Usually gets me by just fine, don't usually drink more than two per night over the weekend

man you could shave off $20 a month off your energy costs if you really limit water/heat, especially when you truly dont' need it. (depending on the weather of course.0

Paying much more attention to these things- our bill has really decreased

Does this include beer at restaurants, bars or other events? If so, then no, I couldn't do it. If is just take home then yeah, that would be doable. My budget includes my wife, who probably drinks more beers than me, so it would be pushing it, but possible. Fortunately, I don't need to worry about it.

Yes, I meant 12 pack. Sorry to excite you. I get 1/2 cases of SN here at around $15 and as low as $13. Fresh.

It's way better than the alternative. I get no questions about beer budgets. Our recent family trip to Vermont involved lunch at Pro Pig, buying Heady Topper at CBC Waterbury (where she adds an extra 4 pack to our max), a stop at the Warren Store for Sip of Sunshine, then after reaching our place, we left for Foley Brothers. Next day we hit Fiddlehead.

Yeah I have a feeling I will see a big uptick in homebrewing activity - I already have all the hardware for extract brewing and have a friend who does all-grain regularly. Considering I'm trying to limit other expensive activities like going out to dinner (not that we have much time with a toddler and soon an infant), filling the void with another hobby that facilitates this one seems like a logical step!

To me, yes, but I am rarely one for the bar scene and when I do go out, it's typically at my company's monthly happy hour where the tab is on them

Voted no. That's only $600 per year! While I don't spend $50 every week on beer, if you took the total yearly amount and divided it by 52 it'd be something like $75-80 per week, if including beers obtained from travelling, trading, online purchases and going out. Drinking out is very expensive around here. Hardly anything is less than $7 per pour. $8-9 very common, may even be the average. I don't sweat it though. I consider beer to be my hobby and I am otherwise very frugal. That said, beer is clearly quite expensive and is definitely a luxury and scaling back beer purchases is certainly a quick and easy way to cut spending. Regardless, I'd recommend putting together a budget that includes all of your expenses, x amount for "personal use" (including beer... and stick to it), and putting all of the rest into savings/investments. People often have it backwards in that they put away what's left after a week of careless spending, or just let their account hit $0, instead of budgeting and moving money into a safe place first. The last thing anyone should want is to feel like they have to drink to forget about their money problems!

$50 is plenty. I might try this actually since I need to start saving a little more too. Recent buys = case of Goose Island The Muddy for $20, case of Elysian BiFrost for $16, case of Troegs Cultivator for $22, case of Old Forge Under 16 oz. Cans for $13, and yesterday I got a 12 pack of Evolution Lot 3 for $10.

I could do this, but don't want to have to do it. Right now I am at about $200 a month or a touch more sometimes and I hope to keep it that way !!

Picked up a 24 of New Belgium Slow Ride today for $10.99. Last week was Audible Ale by Red Hook, same price. I'm impressed with both of them, though they're both on the lower end regarding ABV. Bargain hunting is always an option, although you might end up drinking slightly out of season.

Never had to do anything as drastic as $50 a month but I have tried $80 a month and I blow it every month. This last month I probably spent around $100 best in awhile. I'm still trying to cut back and keep it under $80 a month. I've also been drinking down my cellar as I don't plan to keep as many beers in there as I used to. I've learned that if I'm going to spend less than I end up drinking less, which is a good thing. Good luck and a great goal.

Or you could just stop drinking for 6 months. Save some extra money, drop some lbs and get the he'll out of their basement that much quicker.

When I was unemployed without getting compensation some years back I cut down to 10.00 a week or less by drinking mostly homebrew for the 3 months it took me to get back in shape financially. It was not hard and only a slight reduction in quality.

    Could I? Yes
    Shoud I? Yes
    Will I? Very doubtful

Since the first of the year I have tried to cut back my beer consumption. I havent really kept track, but there are probably weeks that I dont go through more than a six pack. Not many, but its possible. Although I first think of how many great under $10/6 options there are (Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, or Great Lakes under $9) I think if I were to commit I would still have buy some more expensive 4 packs too within the budget. It might actually be easier to limit your consumption by having more high abv options on hand. You can sip on a 12%+ stout for a couple hours vs pounding 2-3 low % beers.

Two words- home brew. It's a great bargain,it's easy, and it will give you a getaway while at the folks house.

Ya, but I'm not going to. Technically I 'could' do lot's of things!

On the other hand, I get enough free beer from work that would make $50 per month pretty easy.
