Are you sure that's brewed in Kentucky? I assumed that much of the Against the Grain product out there was contract brewed elsewhere rather than being in-house.

This is a cross-post from today's New Beer Sunday. Great new offering in the Embrace the Funk series at Yazoo:

According to the label, this beer is "our version of a rustic Belgian Farmhouse-Style Ale, brewed with pilsner and oats, fermented with a classic Wallonian yeast, and aged for six months in French Oak Puncheons. A soft mouth feel of wheat and rye gives way to a long, dry and tart finish." After enjoying this one, I'd have to agree.

    look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

This beer had a very hazy and bright golden color. A vigorous pour produced a thin white head that quickly disappeared, leaving scant wisps in the middle of the glass. The aroma definitely announced the funk in this one: grassy, floral, tart cherries, bready grain, and even some cigar ash at the end of the whiff. As expected, this tasted moderately tart with a nice complexity: fruity with tart cherries and pineapples, grass and hay, funky phenolics (including the tobacco ash), and a subtle breadiness. Medium-bodied and dry on the finish. Another outstanding ETF beer! Cheers!

There's a common occurrence that no beer can be paired with Italian food (marinara sauced) but I feel that saisons, especially the dark side pair well. If the yeast is a particularly dry one and less fruity.

You are probably right, I'm not sure.
Would they specify on the packaging? My cans just say "brewed and canned by Against the Grain Brewery - Louisville KY"

An old article I found referred to only four of their beers being brewed elsewhere - in Maryland - but that was 2014.

I never got into the whole farm-to-table saison movement. I respect the style and process, just not my thing.

I say that all the time. ..now pesto that's different. For me the saison is a style I have to look harder for. I wish there were more to find.

I feel the same about barreled things. Not to start a debate but similar in the way that I love that heavy vanilla but my patience sucks and I can't possibly wait a year. But if people can then good. It's tedious and respectable.

That sounds great. I've been looking for low-abv saisons. My favorites have been in the 7-9% range, but I don't always want to drink beer that strong, especially a style this dry and easy and drink.

Try a Biere De Garde with red sauce, I think it's one of the few styles that pairs perfectly.

Search out grisette's, one of my go-to styles during the summer. It's basically a petite saison/belgian pils. Most stick around 4% and are very dry and drinkable. Oxbow makes some of the best, but I've had some good examples from Kent Falls and Transmitter.

I've been looking for some, but the only one I knew of was Smuttynose Hayseed, which I don't think they make anymore. I drank it last summer but haven't seen it at all this year.

Smuttynose put out an IPA this summer. :frowning2:

I noticed that. I haven't tried it yet. It's probably good considering how much I love Finest Kind, (one of my top favorite IPAs widely available in the Northeast) but I am disappointed that I can't buy Hayseed.

Saison d'epeautre from Blaugies is the perfect saison in my opinion.

After Saison d'epeautre, I'd go Hill Farmstead, Sante Adairius, Jester King.
