This sums it up perfectly, IMO. There's never going to be a solution that makes everyone happy but, if they're going to continue to stay at that location, then they need to find a real solution that will help them be better neighbors. Honestly, that was my biggest beef of the whole week; the tone of their FB post. I understand not wanting to buy into your own hype, but to act like you had no idea it was going to happen was astonishing to me.

It doesn't seem like the Tampa beer craze will slow down any time soon. Every time one brewery's astronomical hype levels seem to decline, another blows up even hotter. Who knows what else is in the running, but Arkane is due and Green Bench could surprise some folks. And this isn't counting breweries yet to surface.

I liked an idea I heard while down there, which sounded quite fitting for the collaborative nature of all of the breweries down there, especially during TBBW:

Have a bottle release at a large warehouse with a huge amount of parking for all of the region's breweries that do bottle releases, at least for that week. It could be kind of like a festival, but just for bottle releases. Every brewery would have its own line, so pick your poison, when one runs out, it runs out. X bottles of each type per person, or X bottles per person. Re-lining optional? Since the Tampa area is so prone to collaboration, come together to try to make something that works for everyone, or at least makes things less painful for all involved.

In every line we were in last week, we were surrounded by people coming from or going to another release, and we were guilty of this as well at times. It was all morning, almost every morning. This isn't just a hassle for the local neighborhoods or businesses--most of which only mildly benefit from the increased temporary population, if at all. It's not just a pain for the breweries trying to mitigate the situation created by huge crowds showing up way earlier than the release time (albeit, a profitable hassle, for them). It's also a huge strain on the roadways and highways and a major hit to our own levels of stress and safety.

One central location could solve a lot of problems if everyone was open to the idea.

Yeah I know they don't. Cycle doesn't either. Most don't.

With reference to hobo miles...I'd imagine with id checks....there would be a good portion of them that wouldn't have an idea and thus would cut down on some of the muling

yeah, you're not wrong. If they actually enforced that rule it could be a HUGE help.

Yeah. That's why I say it. And surprised that I'm one of the few to suggest such an easy solution to help

The brewery has to care about stopping the practice first. I’d happily call out mules and people procuring them if the brewery agreed to stop selling to them. But that’s a commitment the brewery has to make. And it won’t eliminate the lines. Just make the line a nicer experience and cut down on some of the secondary sales.

    Never said eliminate.....just help.

And who wouldn't want a nicer experience? Isn't that what the brouhaha about?

You didn't have to wait for hours. You could get there mon-thurs 10-30min early and get every bottle. You would need a heads up from a buddy in line on that they moved the sales up but you would get every bottle.

People overstate the lines for a place called More in Chicago. Everyone cries about waiting in line for 5 hours when the reality is the first two large releases before they switched to tickets you could arrive at open and get a bottle.

The only problem with checking IDs is the process would become much longer. While the line was insane, the BAIGCCS release was the most efficient release I've ever been to.

It would have been very close. I was in line at 6:00 AM and when I got my bottle there was maybe 20-25 bottles left.

Sort of. Hell, Wednesday we showed up after 9AM completely surrounded by re-liners and still got DBP. But the 7AM start time on Thurs was impromptu...if you showed up at 8:30 it was a ghost town lol. Even if you somehow knew they were going to start at 7AM, you'd have really been lucky to get a bottle showing up at 6:30.

Seriously, AC put everyone else to shame, especially CCB. Love CCB and their beers, but the amount of time it took for them to process people, IDing, charging tax, allowing for additional bottle sales and pickups, etc. just shined an even brighter light on how insanely efficient the crew at AC are.

AC could have processed the relatively small Maple BA Huna line 500* times in the amount of time it took CCB to get it done.

    *Quick maths

They really deserve credit for how fast they get people in and out. Even with cc purchases

2018 was the year TBBW officially jumped the fucking shark...what was once a great event has been completely overrun by Profiteers and Out of Town Beer Tourists...it is now officially the worst week of The Beer Year in Tampa..it was once just Hunahpu Day we had to leave to the Beerists now it's pretty much every other Non Ticketed Event of the Week..

    Some Quick Hits..

Love the Guys at AC but their everyday "Well Golly Gee we had no idea this was going to happen" is the biggest laugh of the week except for how long it takes CCB to sell a single bottle of beer...every Non BA Beer Release and BA Release by them to just the locals had been total insanity since TBBW 2017 so claiming ignorance on the massive crowds that were going to show up for 4 Consecutive BA Releases during TBBW strains credulity to put it mildly..no clue what they were thinking..feel terrible for the people that live around there as it's absurd they have to put up with the idiocy...If AC wanted to really reduce the lines they could have the cops arrest anyone drinking in line as it's not legal and that would certainly decrease the line and what time people get there..getting rid of that Sean Character and his pack of mules would not be hard to do either and there goes another 20 people..If AC does nothing they should change their name to Angry Neighbors Brewery

If it was not a Ticketed Event you basically stood in the word of the week LINES pretty much everywhere you went..3 hours standing outside of AC for Voodoo Event waiting to get inside to be crammed like a sardine to get a pour or two..no thanks but I know people who did..same at 3 Sons Event..

Best Ticketed Event of The Week..Cycle BA Day killed it as usual..great beers..great people..amazing venues and the shares were out of control...saw Beer Nirvana when Bottle Logic Brewer was at his table doing 5 year verticals of pretty much every Stout they have ever released..right next store to that "The Miami Share" was a first for me as I saw a crowd of people 2 deep around the table just watching what the people were drinking...Ramen and Waffles Food Truck was solid also

Best Non Ticketed Event Of The Week...Arkane Sour Night..these guys are just killing it..fortunately they held this before a lot of The Beerists came to town...sadly I fear this is the next Brewery that will be overrun in the area as they had the 2 Best Bottles released last week in Sneaky Fuckin Russian and The Coconut Variant of it..I fear the line to get into sour night next year may reach all the way to Culvers..

Will be interesting to see what changes will occur next year as I heard a lot of people at various Breweries actually saying "it was just too much" this year...All were thinking the problems at Cycle led to a lot of the crowds having to disperse to other events but was that all the problem?..who knows we shall see

Hazy super juicy IPAs aren't hard to make. Every region kind of has a beer identity and it seems that Tampa is full of pastrysluts. It could be that their current business strategy is more profitable. There are some that have made some hazy IPAs but it seems more of a side beer instead of something they will pump out in volume. Some of them would also need to invest in a canning line.

Depends on your goals and needs. If you're just there for yourself then getting there right around the release time works. If you're trying to also hook up a couple trading partners or profit on the secondary then you have to get there early so you stand a better chance of making it through the line again before they run out of beer. Or just bring a mule or three.

Or in this case "hire" a mule or 12. There was a disturbing amount of people who spent the night for around $100. I went to each release except Monday and overall these guys know how to move a line. Insane how fast things go when you use nice round numbers and strongly encourage cash (take note Cigar City).
