So that half a mile line statement didn’t hold true today. There was a surprisingly low amount of people there at 7:45 when I was the first person sent across the street. I was surprised at the relatively low turnout. Maybe because they announced 1 day early and not 2 or 3?

It was 2 per today as opposed to some of the others. Regardless these will continue to sell out immediately from people re-lining even at 1pp until trade value or resale value decreases more.

Regular Fudge Bucket has been on draft numerous times over the past few years if I recall...I'm sure it's cloying sweetness kept a few of the people that actually drink their AC bottles away. Maybe some die hard sweet tooths showed up, plus the usual crowd of flippers, mules, resellers and traders. Also, again, people have to be getting burnt out on spending this much money on a couple bottles of beer in the Tampa area...

I too share in that surprise....this was what their second anniversary bottle was...correct?

Figured that would bring people. Ah well

I’m drinking it right now in the tasting room and the barrel really calms the sweetness as far as AC sweetness goes. It’s really good.

That sounds amazing, but $30-$35 for most bottles of AC beer? Yikes. Plus, quite frankly, I don't think I would wait hours in line at the crack of the dawn to buy a $30 beer. That's just...too much man.
But their beers sound sooooo good. I'm hoping to be down in Tampa next year, hopefully for Tampa Bay Beer Week, and I'm really hoping to get to Angry Chair.

The beers (pronounced pastry stouts) are just so much better than what anyone else I’ve had is putting out. If they call it rocky road it tastes like melted ice cream, if they call call it marshmallow peanut butter it tastes like a marshmallow dipped in peanut butter. There’s never a doubt that the bottle will deliver what is advertised.

All that being said, every time they have an announced release I debate with myself over the silliness of spending so much on one beer AND waiting in line to fork over the cash. Then every time I decide to go it’s worth it.

Are the bottled releases usually also on draft? Because if I visit them I'll probably just drink there. I don't know if they'll have anything bottled, or if I'll try to bring anything back.

Yeah. Always on draft that day once the tasting room opens.

Then you definitely wouldn't want to experience Tamp Bay Beer Week.

Oh...ooooooooooh. lmfao! You're in for a treeeeeat! Make sure to bring a lawn chair and donut pillow. And if you want to try any of it on draft before you buy it, forget about it. At least you'll walk away with a single bottle!

Shit was insane this year, next year will be very interesting to see. They said they'd change the system, but they haven't yet.

They do nail exactly the dessert dishes that they aim to, but...does that make it good beer. I can't say that it does. Do they have a full taproom of people drinking their "regular" stuff on the daily? No, not really. Which is kind of a shame, that they have to cater to the pastry boys and the reselling mule hoards.

So are you saying I shouldn't go during Tampa Bay Beer Week? Should I go during another, less busy time of year?

If long lines aren't your thing, especially for extremely expensive beer, my man, TBBW is your anti-Christ. The end of TBBW is Huna day after all. Plus, this year, Angry Chair released a new BA stout every morning from Tues-Friday, (having to bump the release time earlier every day due to the increasing number of people arriving in town each day), and had a Voodoo tap takeover that was a complete classic shitshow.

Was it worth it? haha....only if you had absolutely nothing else to do and this culture is your life.

Holy crap. Yikes. Well, maybe I won't go for TBBW, then. I just want to visit Tampa/St. Petersburg and hit up all the local breweries.

Where are you in NY? Other half...Hudson Valley etc has hours long waits as well. It's unfortunately nothing new in the world of beer

I think you've gotten some advice from a harsh but realistic point of view here. I live here, and didn't go to a single AC release that week because of the lines and insanity. There were a couple TBBW events I went to, but I attend less every year because so many are over-run with people - both locals and beer-tourists.

If you want to come hang out at the local breweries, drink some stuff on tap and maybe take home a few bottles if they're available...come ANY other week than TBBW.

This is an extreme example for the worst week in Tampa because every beer nerd and trader hiring twenty homeless people are in line every morning. Angry Chair tries to please everyone by changing times, selling early, pleading folks to not line up early.
It's not their fault that the beer trade in a whole for their beer is stupid right now.

I went to the release this Saturday and the line was very short for a BA beer, mainly because AC is still trying to please all involved by announcing releases one day before so the traders can't hire people to stand in line. And it's better. Plus loving the silent releases!
I would also like to mention IGCCS was released two weeks ago also on a Saturday, and it was the smoothest release that beer has ever had. Plus their non BA beers are more around the $20-$25 mark.

I guess what i'm saying is if you arrive in Tampa any other time besides TBBW you can stroll into ACs taproom, order a fantastic beer and be happy you did.
If you were here any day the last two weeks you could walk in, try IGCCS, Rocky Road, Sloth loves coffee, Wilfred, and BBA Awakening.

    Rant over.

August and September are great if you like a slower time of year. It can still be hot and potential gamble for tropical storms but mostly just locals around that time of year, especially along the coast. You also typically get great service as bartenders and waiters are slow and fighting for any tips they can get.

In other words, I should have fucking flown in to pick up my El Cat allotment instead of made my proxy ship to me. Def would have enjoyed sipping on some of those drafts!

    That said....

It kinda is their fault. I don't even think they like making this shit, but they know it puts their name on the map and makes them a shitload of money they otherwise wouldn't be swimming in...
