They have all their recent stouts on tap right now, Grain Sack Napz is pretty amazing. Their Andall beers always have very prominent adjunct flavors, and I'm impressed that they were able to brew a non-Andall beer with the same character. It tastes like a huge whiff of hazelnut flavored coffee beans.

They're also doing glass/crowler sales at 3:30 (I guess they don't want to he seen as competing with the Veil event lines) so of course people are lined up for that. Its a little bizzare to see people waiting in line outside while they're open and have all their best beers on tap.

The Answer will also be doing a Founders Tap Takeover on Saturday (Dec. 2nd). All Founders beers will tap at Noon with the exception of CBS which will be tapped at 4:20pm. I believe this will be the first tapping of CBS in Central Va.

Quick question for you guys and girls, does any one know if The Answer is counter pressure filling their crowlers? recently traded for a few and wondering how long I should wait to crack them open. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I don't think crowlers can be counter-pressure filled, I think the top opening is too big. In any case, they just fill them straight from the taps.

I was in the middle of responding basically the same thing. Can honestly say I have never seen a Crowler counter-pressure filled. basically fill them up straight from the tap having the content overflow the top so as little air as possible is left when the top is put on and it's sealed. If you are on FB then see An demonstrate it HERE. Only way I've ever seen it done. But that does seem like a good idea for any inventors how there that can make something up!

As far as how long a they will last I have seen people post about holding on to Joose, IPAs and their Stouts for months (don't ask me why) and stating they are still good (probably not many of the IPAs). One of their old Crowler labels used to have text as to their recommendation for how long before drinking but I forgot what it was and not sure if they still have that text on there.

Last month I opened a Joose crowler about 4 weeks old and it (predictably) had lost most of its carbonation. Anecdotal yes, but I'd drink them sooner rather than sit on them, with diminished expectations over a longer time - like you would with any other crowler.

Hey dudes- I'm making my first trip to Richmond the second week in February. Really looking forward to checking out The Answer and grabbing some crowlers to take back to Boston. From what I've read in here they only offer Joose crowlers Tues-Thurs? I'll be at the brewery at open on a Friday, is there any chance joose crowlers will be leftover?

Typically it's only Tues / Thurs and nothing really carries over. They pre-fill a good amount to help with not having people wait but I think they usually sell through those and then just fill other on-demand. They do have JOOSE on all the time and I have heard of some non-local giving them the story about being from out of town / state and it being the first time visiting, #1 stop to visit, yada yada yada and then An is a nice guy and sometimes will give the thumbs up on filling crowlers as a courtesy for non-locals wanting to take the Joose home. Their IPAs are available for fills every day and if you happen to see any Guest Taps that you may want a fill of and they will do that particular beer they will only fill the flip / swing top growlers and do not Crowler guest beers

Thanks man. That's super helpful. Might have to just bring down some Trillium with me and do an IP trade, but it's good to know I can get crowlers of the other stuff. I'll be in town all day and plan on dedicating most of it to The Answer so I'll just have to crush a ton of small pours.

I see you posted on The Veil page as well but a couple other recommendations I would make is do not miss Triple Crossing or Final Gravity. I personally think Triple Crossing puts out the best IPAs in RVA and their fruited sours (Waxing Poetic series) are outstanding as well. When they do can releases it's on Friday's and the open at Noon. Final Gravity is a brewery / homebrew shops that puts out top tier beers as well. They usually open at 10am on Fridays. No cans but will do Crowlers / Growlers of just about anything on tap.

Thanks for the heads up. Neither of those spots were on my radar! Will add them to the list as we will be in town form 11-7.

Some pretty big news coming from The Answer yesterday......Great news for both Brandon and Sean.

"It is with great excitement for us to announce that our head brewer, Brandon Tolbert, will be leaving our family at the end of March to pursue his own dreams of opening a brewery. It’s been great having Brandon at the helm over the past 3 years, but the only constant in life is change, and this is no exception. We wish him the best of luck at Safety Team Brewing Co, and hope you will show him the same love and support that you’ve shown him here.

We’d also like to announce that Sean O'Hern will be our new head brewer. Sean has worked in the brewery for the past 2 years and is excited about taking charge of the brewing program, just as much as we are! So help us raise a glass to these two gentlemen and our pursuit to continually mold and shape what we are and what we’re bound to become! Cheers!"

I was thinking of taking a trip down to The Answer next Wednesday. I'm having a bit of a hard time finding a pattern to how they release crowlers? Are their releases everyday or only certain days? Any help is very much appreciated.
