The Answer

I believe it's a stepped up version of She Gone. She Good was Citra & Moasic (6.9%). She Gone was Amarillo & Mosaic (8%) and She Bangin' is also showing as Amarillo & Mosaic coming in at 10%. All of that hop info are from the details on their Untappd listing. Not considering the hops used I guess you could consider the trio as IPA - DIPA - TRIPA

 

Just did a quick check at hops used in their IPAs and taking hops into account alone here's the path of a couple

Mosaic & Citra: She Good (IPA) - Grand Larceny (DIPA) - MegaBlast (TRIPA)

Mosaic & Amarillo: ?? (IPA) - She Gone (DIPA) - She Bankgin' (TRIPA)

 

went to Answer after the foolery release. All of their beers were incredible. Their stouts were amazing. Had Aunt Sara, a couple others I forgot. Pina Mangito was freaking awesome. so fleshy. Had some lemongrass beef that was awesome as well. Pretty sure I met An Bui, but that was after a couple foolery and a couple big Answer stouts, so I looked like this . In short, Answer gave me dick sparks.

 

VA has really stepped up their game, though. Lots of competition from Veil, Ocelot, Aslin.

 

I had Dean's Nutz and Jose Ocampo too. Have never had prop, but based on my memory this does not sound like hyperbole.

 

One of the best brewers of IPA & DIPA on the east coast.

 

Met up some with guys at the DMB show in Charlottesville Saturday and they had a crowler of She Bangin', holy shit was that good. Hides the ABV super well, and was juicy as hell.

 

Anyone know if that crazy taplist from last Friday survived through the weekend?
I'm not too optimistic, but I would love to try Parabola or Foolery on tap when I visit The Answer in a few days...

 

They're not still on tap, I went yesterday because I saw people checking both in on Untappd, but they weren't on when I got there.

 

Ah okay, thanks for the heads up. My hopes weren't too high, I'm still excited for the tap list (even though I wish they'd put it online, at some point).

 

It used to be online but that has been down for the past couple months. No idea why it's taking so long to fix unless they just don't want to have it online anymore. I figured at the very least if they would switch to another provider if the previous one was a problem.

Do be sure to try their Andalls. it really does not matter which ones they have. They are almost always killer.

 

Holy shit, don't miss the Bourbon Barrel King Kahuna w/Batch Coffee #4 Andall, its unlike anything I've ever had before, beer or otherwise. Intense coffee aroma and flavor, like sticking your face in one of those coffee barrels at the fancy grocery stores, but it doesn't drown everything else out, there is also an intense chocolate coconut flavor, like a slice of chocolate coconut cake. Its insane.

 

Wow, good to know -- I'll definitely check that one out on Friday!

 

they were using taphunter, right? did they stop and switch to something else?

 

I do not recall who they were using but they have nothing at the moment. Only way to find out is to go there or have someone snap a pic and post to a few of our local group pages.

 

yeah i feel you but what i meant was... last time i was in there the actual tap lists on the screens at the bar were digital and automated by taphunter, which in turn updated it online automatically as they switched things out. did they migrate away from that system? What do they use for their draft list in house at the bar?

 

I was there a couple of times this week. The tap list at The Answer was INSANE. Seriously, the majority of it was barrel aged! The list at Mekong was good, but not like The Answer.

 

Last two, three times I have been there the screens have been offline. They are handing out the printed tap menus and keeping everyone fairly well abreast of kegs kicking and such. Sadly, I was a mere minutes away from She Bangin' yesterday before it kicked. Bartender was very good at addressing the update as people came to the bar, and before they laid eyes on the tap list.

Honestly, even without the taps listed online I go there with full faith that I'm going to find about 23 somethings that I really would like to drink. Anyone who goes there and leaves disappointed was probably all about muling crowlers anyway.

 

I went to Mekong/The Answer on Monday. The food at Mekong was awesome. The Answer only had one beer on tap when I was there. I honestly was not impressed with "She Bangin'". There was nothing technically wrong with it but it didn't stand out to me either. The best IPA I had in Richmond was Hop, Collaborate and Listen at Triple Crossing. They were also the best brewery I visited overall but I was only in town for 2 nights and obviously didn't get to hit that much.

 

^^Im guessing you mean just one of their own beers on tap with 40+ others. Maybe they blew through their the weekend before since it was their anniversary party. Did you happen to try any of the Andalls?
