7clutch, I don't mean this in a mocking way at alll. I read this post earlier in the day, went a store I almost never go to out in long island, and found Speedway Stout in 750ml bottles. I've been in the mood for imperial stouts recently but haven't had one in a few weeks. Didn't want to drink the whole bottle by myself tonight, so I opened a bottle of the dark lord I picked up as well.

That's pretty freakin cool to be able to pick up both of those on the same day. I'm not too worried about the Speedway Stout--I have family in areas where it's distributed, so I'm sure I'll come across it someday. It was just frustrating that I had read the top beer lists on here and ratebeer several times by then and still failed to notice what it was until after it was gone. Cheers!

Well thanks to Verecund, BCBS didnt get away from me. He gave me a bottle of 09, and holy god it was good. It was everything I imagined from BCBS.

    Thanks Verecund!

How about the one that is actively getting away :slight_frown:

Couple bottles of Drie Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek sitting on the shelf for $35 calling my name every time I walk by...I know I should but I just can't pull the trigger!

No single beer in particular but every bottle of Cantillon I used to see on the shelves week after week. Now I'm lucky if I see a bottle of Iris a couple times a year :slight_frown:

Ok, a little embarrassing here. I didn't know that it was on the top 100!! I've never had Ale smith before, although I've know of their fame, and had never heard of Speedway stout before I saw your post. You should feel good knowing that a fellow BA'er will have this beer because of you, as I may have simply bought Old Rasputin instead

I passed by bottles of Stone Vertical Epic 2002.

They were sitting right there on the shelf.

Three Floyds used to be all over the shelf here.... They must have stopped shipping to western WI within the last few months.... All we have left is what imagine to be some really really old Dreadnaught, but I am upset that when it was all over this winter I did not grab more Gumballhead. Alpha king is ok but I have better Pales like Moon Man flowing like water!

Founders Better Half is my saddest one. I saw a few bottles on the shelf and passed because of the price tag. That was before I had Curmudeon and realized it was one of my favorite beers from them, that being said I really wish I would have got at least one easy bottle.

I realize these are all probably easy to trade for but that is something I have never done and just can not seem to pull the trigger on.

Bourbon County. I had 1 in my hand at $14 a bomber in So Cal and thought it's priced high, it'll be around for a while. That was around 2009 and I never had another opportunity to this day.

What I normally do in situations like that is that for a week or two whenever I have the opportunity to buy something I can get whenever I'll pass on it and then convince myself I just saved $5 or whatever. I do that a few times and then I don't feel as guilty picking up the pricey rare one. At least this works in making my wife a little less disappointed in me when I fork out money like that on beer. :-x It's kinda sad, I know, but it works for me. Also if you're like me then if it goes away and you don't see it for several years and are kicking yourself then when it appears again a few years from now you'll probably just end up forking out even more for it. I dunno, I say get one. At the very least you can flaunt it at those who live in places where loons and 3F have completely dried up.

I didn't know this was your first time picking it up. That's awesome! Glad you'll get to have it because of the thread!

The only one I can think of was just a few months ago. Avery Sour Fest had Crooked Stave's Persica, which is a highly rated peach sour. I love sours and peach is my favorite fruit, but I thought to myself "I'll get something else, since Crooked Stave bottles are pretty easy to find in Colorado." Bad move. I haven't seen it anywhere since. I'm hoping Chad brews it again for next year!

I had 2 different opportunities in an hour to purchase Fruet.

At $35, I don't really care that it got away.

Goose Island offerings, I've learned my lesson now.

First in 2010 when I moved into my first apartment my roomate and I went down to the local store and bought one of the bombers of 09 BCBS. I watched them sit there for a few months not caring until about 6 months later when I really wanted it.

Second in May of 2011 when I walked into a liquor store in Northampton to see two bottles of Rare on the shelf. I just couldn't pull the trigger at $50 being a college student who hadn't started working (but would in june).

Finally in November of 2011 when I drove and hour and a half (3 hours total) during finals week to grab a four pack of BCBS since a store was nicely holding it for me. They had Cantillon sitting on the shelf which I promptly grabbed and then I made a choice. Grab the King Henry, of which there were six bottles sitting there, or the Speedway Stout. Needless to say I chose wrong.

I've learned, if I see GI just buy it and pat myself on the back later for the forward thinking.

My girlfriend was in VT this week for a music festival. I asked her to stop at The Alchemist for a 4 pack of Heady Topper. She got there to read a sign saying the beer was only available on tap...DAMMIT

I don't think the Abyss would be too hard to trade for on these forums, if you're looking to get into that. And it's an annual release, right? Best of luck!

When I was out west I just couldn't pull the trigger on Parabola or any of the RR sours. Just felt too pricey. I had a lot of good beer out there, but sadly missed out on those, even though I saw them right there.

Cantillon "Raisin" Lambic 1976, the precursor to St. Lamvinus. 18 Euro seemed like a lot at the time.

Damn, that store was loaded. I hope you made sure to drink a few of the goodies you got right after finishing your last final.

I saw Founders CBS sitting on a shelf in a liquor store. At this point I didn't realize what it was. Passed (on crappier beer no doubt) thinking, "oh hmm that sounds alright. I'll have to check it out some time."

Little did I know it would take me 2 years before I even tried KBS, let alone CBS.
