We all like to try a wide variety of beers. That’s why we are on Ba. But I suppose that most of us also have some reliable “go-to” favorites that are unlikely to be our top-rated beers. If you were to add up the total volume of beer you consumed in the past few years (a frightening thought!), which beers, craft or macro, would be at the top of your consumption list? My leading purchases have probably been: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Great Lakes Eliot Ness Founders Backwoods Bastard What are yours? Please don't list more than five beers.
I keep a detailed log of every beer I drink (including amounts, ABV and other metrics) so I can pull up numbers for you. Overall there isn't a beer that I go back to reliably and there is definitely a year-to-year shift in my preferences (but also availability of some beers in my area). Beers that make repeat appearences in my yearly top-consumed are Pseudo Sue and Sip of Sunshine but even these two don't typically break the 200oz a year mark.
SNPA and Brooklyn Lager, I try a lot of different beers but still go back to them. Less often than I used to because of local options that did not exist even 5 years ago.
Just anecdotally: Jack's Abby House Lager Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Sierra Nevada Celebration (I drink enough of it in season for it to make this list) Allagash White Wormtown Be Hoppy These aren't my five favorite beers, but they strike the right balance of delicious, easily drinkable, and affordable for them to be in my fridge very often, and hence probably comprise my five most regularly consumed.
Dale's Pale Ale has been my #1 go-to for the last 6 months. I always liked it, but with IPA's taking a decidedly dry, extra-pale, late-hop turn Dale's has become an anomaly.
Not any single particular beer, but certainly some breweries are my go-to. That's sort of the point of WBAYDN, isn't it? But if I have to: Odell Half Acre Outer Range Snake River Brewing Cumbre ...... that's the front list.
And here are some actual numbers from the last 16 months (2019, plus 2020 so far). 1)Heady Topper 304oz 2)Pseudo Sue 226oz (if you add DDH versions then we are looking at an additional 96oz) 3)Sip of Sunshine 221oz 4)Focal Banger 192oz 5)Kane Head High 176oz
Like a lot of BAs my beer fridge is rather diverse. However, two beers that seem to be ever present are: Founders - Breakfast Stout Diamondback - Green Machine
Sierra Nevada Torpedo Marble Red Ale La Cumbre Slice of Hefen La Cumbre BEER The La Cumbre's are probably my favorites but they come in 4 packs and are expensive so I only buy them when my Social Security check is deposited.
Same here. Whatever floats my boat. I don't usually go in to purchase with any intent. I like to see what available and what's fresh.
Does homebrew count? then at least 20 gallons of that (4+ 5-gallon batches.) If not, Ihaven't really had ago-to lately, but over times it's been Wachusett IPA and Country Ale, Founder;s All Day IPA, Jack's Abby House, POst-Shift, Hoponius Union, etc. At least a couple cases of Tree House... Most of my purchases lately have been one-off 4packs.
I’m always looking for new things to keep in rotation so I’m constantly buying new beers but there are things I don’t run out of. My fridge staples are easily: Creature Comforts Tropicalia Creature Comforts Bibo Pilsner Allagash White PBR/Hamms
The one beer I always have on hand is Harpoon Rec. League - 3.8% and the absolute best citrus-IPA taste there is in a low-ABV beer. There are always others around, but they change frequently.
COOP F5 Angry Scotsman Night Terror Angry Scotsman Rusty Kiltpin Miller Lite Modelo Between Miller Lite, Modelo, and F5 there is almost always a 6-pack worth of each in the fridge, and when I drop below that I go to the store and reload. The Night Terror & Rusty Kiltpin have been additions to "always in the fridge" in the last 6 months.
Like most folks here, I drink a wide assortment of new beers and favorites...but I always have Jai Alai on hand - Cheers!
SN Oktoberfest might be the closest thing I have to a regular Honorable mentions for Anchor Steam, Alaskan Amber and Sam Adams
While up north: Grain Belt Premium Castle Danger 17-7 pale ale Summit Keller Pils While down south: Monday Night Han Brolo pale ale Westbrook One claw Creature Comforts Bibo pils Ten Fidy anytime!
It's probably Second Fiddle for me, I buy it when it's available even if I'm looking for other beers.
My current “go to” beer is definitely Ransack the Universe by Collective Arts. It’s excellent, reasonably priced and always available. Going back about twenty years or so, other “go to” beers I’ve had for varying lengths of time are Pilsner Urquell, Hacker Pschorr Hefeweizen, Staropramen, Grolsch (swing top), Dieu du Ciel Corne Du Diable, Mill Street Tankhouse Ale and at the very beginning of this period Zywiec.
These I drink more than anything else. Melvin IPA Melvin Hubert Pale Ale Snake River Zonker Stout Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale
I don't have go-tos or fridge beers, I like getting new 4 packs/6 packs. I am pretty faithful to local brewery Benchtop for all their IPA/stout releases. And if theres nothing new on the beer board at a restaurant, I'll pick a local IPA like O Connor El Guapo.
When I was brewing 90% of the beer I drank I always had a dark beer like oatmeal stout or vanilla porter, a sour or brett, and an IPA or 2 on tap. For many years I kept 11 or 12 beers on tap in my garage with a very wide variety, but those 4 beers were always on tap.
Some of the beers I seem to buy most frequently are the ones I tend to drink in the summer Allagash River Trip Narragansett Fresh Catch (in season) Amstel Light Prima
Hehe. In all seriousness, I can provide you with month-by-month consumption stats, complete with graphs regarding brands, styles, container, state/country of origin, purchasing location and ABV*Volume indexes. I also used to keep track of costs but I stopped doing so because it was depressing.
