Maybe that's because he doesn't have to give it a second thought (no surprises) since it is always fresh.

Imagine, if all craft beer was always fresh, how much of a discussion topic would freshness even be?

It looks as if this thread is morphing into a discussion about why most beer drinker prefer AALs over craft. Craft drinkers and BAs sometimes see drinking, enjoying and talking about beer as a stand alone activity. They see beer as more than an enjoyable drink. AAL drinkers don't think or talk much about beer. They enjoy it as much as BAs so but see it only as drink to have while doing something else.

And even folks in the craft beer industry (insert word here*) AAL beers. Below is a quote from Shaun Hill (Hill Farmstead brewing):

“I actually find myself drinking Miller High Life or Budweiser because those beers are perfectly crafted.”

    Cheers!

    * a word you could select to insert above: prefer, choose,,,,

P.S. Maybe there are just times when a beer drinker just doesn’t want to think too hard about the beer they are drinking/enjoying?

P.S.S. Later today I will be drinking a can of Reading Premium beer – I bought a six-pack yesterday.

You could absolutely be right. I get the impression it's not something most even think about (the freshness of their bud), but I don't know that.

I confess I've often wondered if I would be able to tell the difference between fresh bud and stale bud.

Me too. Many years ago, I worked in a wine store in Memphis, where we frequently encountered this behavior. I can't tell you how many times someone would come in who had tried a particular wine at a restaurant they enjoyed years ago, and had decided it's what they wanted to drink for the rest of their life. It was very difficult to dissuade them. We would point out wines age and change in flavor over time, and that they also differ from year to year. So it really wasn't possible to provide them with that particular wine or tasting experience. Didn't matter. They wanted THAT wine.

Conversely, I remember a wine bar in Santa Cruz I used to frequent, where we would often times hear a customer say something along the limes of "I'm in the mood for something new. I don't care what is, I just want it to be good!" We used to speculate about the reasons for the different outlooks.

No worries... I would never try to suggest that there might be some sort of BMC analogy one could draw from these two scenarios. :sunglasses:

I can't agree in the particular case I sited. He generally seems to enjoy drinking beer, always has some in his fridge, and will drink other light beers (bud, miller, etc) when that's available. I think its a combination of a lot of things, familiarity, predictability, it matches his desires as far as potency and perceived health cost, financial demands, and probably others. My dad is another example, absolutely loves all sorts of alcohol. Loves dipas and hoppy beers generally, and still returns to various cheap industrial lagers (labatt blue light seems to be his go too) because he likes something about them. I can't understand it and happily drink water or liquor at a function where Coors is the only beer option, but I suppose there's room for all of us here
