Yeah, I don't get the lovefest for SMS, "mess" might be harsh but definitely not smooth or blended.

Took a visit to Ohio and landed on the Great Lakes Blackout Stout by mere change. An outstanding beer that I plan to stockpile during my next road trip!

Laughing Dog's The Dogfather imp stout for Idaho is accurate and quite good. I've also had it barrel aged on tap.

Yeah I bought some of this back from Florida, can't say I am wild about it.

Marble's BA Imperial Stout is a fine choice, but Duel's Goya Imperial Stout may be best in state. Just like the IPA list though, it's annoying to be pretending that BA, non-BA, imperial, export, and milk stouts are all easily compared.

Speedway would be a nice runner up.

For Rhode Island, Electric White Lightning (or whatever its called) from Revival brewing I think takes better than Revery.

As a state, other than Marble, some SF, and La Cumbre, the total # of reviews or hads is just super low for all walks of Beers in our area. It keeps a lot of beers, like Goya under rated. Imagine if we had the following that others have with getting their local beer into the top 20 beers list. Goya has a nice rAvg, but just not enough people.

This website list sort of relies on the more popular ones (distribution is key). I would put the Stout Americano from Marble ahead of the BBA version. Chocolate Cherry Stout among many others from Canteen are/were very good. Can't forget panama joes coffee stout from Canteen. That may be my favorite in the state. But it's released 2, maybe three times a year randomly. Their BBA version was super nice. Ponderosa for a short time had a breakfast milk stout I believe. It's really tough for me to find a stout that isn't at least tasty in some regard. If all beers at a brewery suck, more than likely the stout is at least acceptable. La Cumbre's La Negra was a downer, even with some age on it. So I feel even with a lack of review #s, people know their stuff

I was thinking mostly of packaged beers, but if we talking draft too, I'd say El Robusto or Stout #2286 were the best ever in the state.

As for our ratings, sadly, New Mexicans don't use the internet much. And most New Mexico BAs are lurkers and tickers, which hurts our beers' ratings. Thankfully they reinstated ticks, otherwise we'd only have a few beers with any rating at all.

I've not had Pumpkinator, so I'll try it to give it and Saint Arnold a fair shake. But it has to be beyond good to beat out Karbach's Hellfighter to be Texas' best (not to mention Lakewood's The Temptress, (512)'s Pecan Porter or Jester King's Black Metal, IMHO).

Between this list and the IPA list I have now read more articles this week from the St Cloud Times than the New York Times.

For real tho... yeti and variants, avery's black eye, uncle jacobs, pumpkyn, left hand milk, winter warlock, back country brewing, we may not have shit for ipas but we are stacked for stouts. Ten fidy is pretty fantastic too though.

It's been a while since I've had PVW Black Magick and it was great but for beer that is actually attainable I would say this is a good choice. What did you have in mind?

Edit: Sorry, just saw your follow up post.

I'd like to hear from some fellow Minnesotans regarding our selection. Obviously Darkness is a fantastic beer but a lot of people swear that it's second fiddle to BA Silhouette from Lift Bridge Brewing. I've never had the latter so I'm curious.

We have so many great stouts that haven't been fully rated on beer forums. I just tried a Howl from FTB the other day and it was amazing. 603's Granite Stout is very pleasantly drinkable as well.

Maine's spot on. If you like a real stout, not one gooped up with coffee, chocolate, or bourbon, then Cadillac Mountain is a great choice.

I think the release party is pretty early this year, Nov. 21.
