Just had Avery Black Eye...loved it. Never had a Rum BA'd beer before...any other ones to check out?
Rum King. It has king in the name!
I feel like I'm always saying the same thing every few weeks in response to these threads but I'll say it again...Carton Ship Wreck Porter.
I feel like Rum BA is very underrated and probably my favorite for beer so I hope to see more of it in the future.
Avery Rumpkin. 2014 man o man. couldn't drink the whole bottle either. had to save a sip for the next day....even better
I'm a huge fan of Russian pirate from Odell! Wish they would bottle it
Northern Brewer's Rum Runner Stout homebrew extract kit.
Huge fan of the style. Saw your post and came here to mention Black Eye as the best that I've had so far. Other two just straight RBA that are really good are Rum King and Rum Black Tuesday. Calico Jack and Pirate Bomb are top notch too if you don't mind the spices.
Rum Black Tuesday
Singlecut has a rum ba milk stout called E.R.I.C. which is/was heavenly
rum cafe americana
cycle nooner 8 (rum BA hazelnut stout)
Black eye and the odell pirate have been my favorites.
Another vote for Avery Rumkin
Just had Rum Black Tuesday and it was really delicious!!!
I've only had one but I quite enjoyed it. Innis and Gunn Rum Cask Oak Aged, although I'm not sure it's a legit barrel aged beer.
RareR Dos, Rum Oil of aphrodite, Rum King
Rum King is the only one I've had, and I quite like it.
Modern Times Rye Barrel Aged Monsters Park.
Rum Black Tuesday
Pirate Noir was tasty! And Rum Monster's Park with Vanilla is phenomenal.
Pirate Bomb! was pretty good, but I preferred regular Bomb! (as I have in all BA Bomb! cases).
I'm not a big fan of rum-barrel beers, but the Rum Monster's Park's are probably the best I've had. Rum King disappointed me. Bet Rum BT is super sweet.
Rum seems to accentuate the sweetness and make the beer hotter (alcohol-wise), both things I don't really like.
I think OP is talking about 'Rum' not 'Rye' .but yeah it's good too.
I would stay away from Lost Abbeys Ron Santo Diego (for us Cubs fans). It tasted like flat, watered down rum and diet.
Figueroa mountain 5th anniversary is my favorite rum ba'd beer to date. Secret whale
I liked this year's Heavy Seas Yule Tide. The rum is pretty subtle, but still a very enjoyable beer.
+1 for Rumpkin.
Pirate Bomb is my favorite
Firestone Maltose Falcons was aged in Rum Barrels as well as Brandy and Bourbon
Oddside Scally Wagger is probably the worst one, really terrible.
Rum Black Tuesday
Innis & Gunn's Rum Barrel Aged is probably the best of their lineup. I like that one a lot and its always easy to find.
Ship wreck porter from carton
I've only had maybe 4 or 5 at best but my favorite so for was Dire Wolf Rum Line from Wolf's Ridge.
RareRDos and Modern Times Nicaraguan Rum Monster's Park were both outstanding.
I have not tried many, but Rum BA Fayston Maple was pretty tasty, I think will be better with a year or so on it. Also, from Abandoned Building in MA, their rum BA Nightshade was quite tasty.
Jackie O's Rum Oil of Aphrodite is quite delicious.
Haven't tried it yet but I have a bottle of this and it seems to get good ratings: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30695/204709/
I came here to say two things, but the first two responses said what I was going to:
You have to really like rum (and maybe care less about beer) to get into that one.
As for the OP, you already had my favorite rum BA beer, Black Eye. But another Avery BA series beer, Momi Hiwa, is worth checking out if you can track it down.
Rum BA Liquid Confidental from To Ol
Rum Oil of Aphrodite is also killer
I also find the rum barrels add more of a sweetness to the beer, and find a toasty or bitter base stout works best for these barrels. I am not a fan of most, rump kin and momi hiwa were both waaaay too sweet for me because of this. It would seem rum barrels could balance American versions of the imperial stout.
