I was wondering what my fellow BAs considered to the the best widely distributed, non-seasonal beers out there. By wildly distributed I don't necessarily mean available in every stae, but certainly available in every US geographical area, and obtainable either off the shelf or very easily via trade. As I was thinking up this idea, two immediately came to mind. Trappistes Rochefort 10 and Unibroue La Fin Du Monde. My vote goes to La Fin Du Monde, as even though I think rochefort may be a better beer, La Fin du Monde seems to be available way more than Rochefort or any other world class beer I have had for that matter. It also, to me, is the epitome of the style, whereas Rodhefort has Westy to try to live up to. For those two reason, I'll think La fin Du Monde is the best widely distributed, easily obtainable, available all year long beer on the planet. What are all your write in votes?

Stone Ruination? Not one of my favorite DIPA's, but "good enough" and should be generally easy to get no matter where you live.

Ruination really disappointed me the one time I had it. I thought many Stone beers I had previously had were significantly better, including the regular Stone IPA. Maybe I'll have to retry it.

I had that in my honorable mentions, along with Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier (which is hands down and by far the best Hefeweizen I've had to date)

Weihenstephaner is definitely great. For a more widely distributed hefe, I'd have to go with Hacker Pschorr tho. Great stuff too.

I'm totally biased because I'm currently drinking this and loving it, but I can't imagine a better tripel than Westmalle Tripel. For the record, La Fin Du Monde was my favorite tripel, until tonight.

    Other contenders:
    Orval
    Duvel
    Saison Dupont
    Rochefort 10
    Rochefort 8
    Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier
    Aventinus
    Stone Ruination

If you're trying to spend a little less on awesome year round brews you can always go for some Torpedo. Damn I want one now....

    Cheers!

I like La Fin Du Monde a lot, but see it way down on the list of best Tripels.

Bang for buck Torpedo is easily one of the best value beers out there.

Chimay Blue, and red for that matter. All of the Belgians mentioned here. Agree on Fin du Monde. Would add Ayingers to the Germans mentioned. Three Philosophers and Hennepin, Saison DuPont...

freshness is key in this beer.

    my suggestions
    Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous
    Sierra Nevada Torpedo "extra" IPA
North Coast Old Rasputin Imperial Stout
    Founder's Porter
    Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA

since you seem to like Belgian and German styled beers,
    I'd recommend Weihenstephaner's Vitus
    Schnieder Aventinus
    Ommegang Hennepin
    Great Divide Collete
    Allagash White

I'm with you there. I like it, but it's not even my favorite Unibroue (that would be La Terrible).

As to the OP, though, I'd have to go with Schlenkerla Urbock. Very consistent, always awesome.

Westmalle is excellent, personally I prefer La Fin. Both great though.

And to silentjay, good call on Sublimely. It's one of my favorite year round easily obtainable beers as well.

So true, Torpedo is a excellent go to beer, especially for value!
