Three Floyds Dark Lord, any year, versus Oskar Blues Ten Fidy.. Love em both.. But i like ten fidy more. Just more flavorful.

Ten Fidy, but it comes down to personal preference (stating the obvious). I prefer bitter RIS's with assertive hop bills over highly sweet ones, so Ten Fidy is a no-brainer. They are both great, though.

DL is the southern sweet tea of RIS it just tastes like stout someone loaded with table sugar. I much prefer Ten Fidy or just about any other RIS a lot more.

Really? I think Fidy is rather boring. Not that I think Dark Lord is the zenith of RIS, but not even the DL haters refer to it as boring.

Both are rather "meh" to me... I've only had Dark Lord once but it was REALLY sweet. I'd rather have a Founders IS, Plead the 5th, or Expedition.. Damn, those breweries in Michigan know how to make a great RIS.

I'd agree to founders being the best of all mentioned so far. With age it gets even better too.

not to geek out, but aren't their patent differences between Russian Imperials and regular imperials. Namely the much richer, malt bill with dark fruit flavors and sweetness? People often complain about Dark Lord being to sweet or not well balanced, but thats the style. If anything Ten FIDY while being an amazing imperial stout, isn't quite the over-the-top Russian styled.

I had 10 Fidy early in the fall and actually kind of enjoyed it, but I only had a few ounces. We did a blinded tasting of 6 Russian Imperial Stouts and 10 Fidy came in last. That beer is a syrupy mess to me. All of the individual flavors are too strong and nothing blends together.

I have never had a better RIS than Expedition, which was my personal favorite of a blinded tasting we did. The winner of the event was Central Waters Satin Solstice, which is pretty awesome. I have a Marshal Zukov in the cellar waiting to dethrone Expedition.

Had one tonight that was just past its best by date, and I think it's at its peak. That being said, I still think Founders and Expedition 1 up Blackout and EASILY. Blackout is solid, but slightly overrated IMO. Sad to say this, being from Ohio.

Dark lord, while extremely polarizing, is also extremely unique for it's cherry notes. I have yet to see another beer convert non-stout , humble beer drinkers as easily as derklerd.
