Just found a bottle of this in the back of the cellar (my wife is a big fan). Opened it this weekend and was hit with a surprise sour. Yep, another infected batch. All of the spice qualities were pretty much gone or buried in the sourness. Not half bad imo, but definitely interesting. Anyone else crack a bottle recently and experience this?

Yeah. Dude brought one to a bottle share as a "super special" bottle. Quite tart, not very good IMO. Still on the shelves around here too (SF East Bay).

I wouldn't say a couple bottles is an entire batch.

Am I correct in assuming that this wasn't a recent bottle release? I had a vertical (of my own bottles) a few months ago stretching lots of years. One of them was most definitly infected. Completely sour, not even a hit at the beer that used to be there. Like what you said, it was still somewhat plesent, I am a sour fan, but definitly not what Autumn Maple should taste like.

Just checked, and it was last years batch (bottled 6/2014)

My sour bottle was from 2011. Had a 2014 that night too and it was fine, but it was quite fresh at the time. However, I wont be buying any more Autumn Maple, not really one of my go-to styles, and it obviously can't hold up to being aged.

Unfortunately, this is/was a constant issue for The Bruery. Many batches. This is the primary reason they formed Terreux and separated their sours from the rest of their brews. They are currently building a new tasting room for Terreux, and fortunately for me, I live within a couple miles of each

Yes, I know this. I'm a Reserve Society member, and have access to this thing called the Internet.

I had a 4 month old autumn maple earlier this year and it was intensely sour, but in a good way. I love sours, and it tasted like an extremely tart Flanders. The spice and maple was also still detectable. It was so good that I figured it was supposed to be sour and that they had just made a kick ass pumpkin spice and maple sour.
