This event went up today or in the last couple of days. Good luck to the talented homebrewers out there.
    http://www.thebruery.com/events/homebrew/

The Bruery is holding a homebrew competition and the winning beer will be recreated in our brewhouse and distributed for all to enjoy!

It’s been over 7 years since we held the Batch No. 1 homebrew competition that led to the very first beer ever brewed by The Bruery. Since then, we have had a competition for our 50th, 300th and most recently, our 1,000th batch of beer. Entries have come in from all over the world and winners have hailed from California, Colorado and New Jersey.

If you’ve been keeping up with The Bruery recently, you know that we’re in the middle of many new developments. We have a brand new brewhouse getting installed in just a couple of months and we’re nearly ready to launch Bruery Terreux, a new brand focused specifically on funky and sour ales. With all of the excitement around here, we thought it was only fitting to let our fans help us formulate one of our newest recipes. We aren’t quite sure when that brew will fall into our schedule, so this time around we’re calling it our BATCH # ??? Competition.

This will be a BJCP certified homebrew competition at our brewery and the winning beer will be brewed on our professional system and sold as a full scale batch of beer. The beer will be entered into the 2015 Great American Beer Festival as a Pro/Am entry* and may even be distributed on a national level! And of course, the winner will be invited to The Bruery to help us replicate their award winning homebrew!

*if brewed before the competition beer deadline in August

    REQUIREMENTS:

-The following BJCP categories are the ONLY categories that we will be accepting for this competition.

Please read over the category descriptions on the BJCP website.

    13 , 16, 17,18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23

-New for this competition – We will be accepting barrel aged and sour ales!

-Beers must be submitted between the dates of April 1st 2015 and April 22nd 2015.

-The competition judging will be held on Sunday, April 26th

-You may submit up to 10 different beers.

-There is a $10 entry fee for each beer submitted. Checks made payable to “The Bruery” (all entry fees will go to support The National Teen Leadership Program)

Along with the chance to have one of your very own recipes brewed and distributed, you will also be helping us raise money for those in need, as the entire $10 entry fee will be donated to NTLP. The National Teen Leadership Program is committed to creating positive environments that empower, inspire and educate all teens to discover and maximize their unique leadership potential and embrace the diversity and equal value of everyone.

-Each Homebrewer must fill out one Entry Form and a Recipe Form for each submission.

-You must send at least three (3) bottles of each beer, 12oz or larger.

-Each beer must have a Bottle ID filled out and taped to it. These can be downloaded here.

-Bottles should be carefully packaged and either shipped to our Society Pick-Up Center at:
    “Batch # ???”

    The Bruery Society Pick-Up Center

    741 Dunn Way

    Placentia, CA 92870

OR – bottles can be hand delivered to the same address.

-The beers will be kept at an appropriate storage temperature until time of contest.

-You must be an AHA member for 2015 to qualify for this competition. If you are not a member, head here to join.

-Your score sheets will be returned to you in a timely manner via USPS.

I really wish I'd have something ready in time. I have a Blackberry Vanilla Berliner going right now, but it won't be ready until a month (or two) after the contest. Hopefully, they'll have me as a judge instead.

I'm guessing no one is surprised that the BJCP category number for IPA is 14. Lol.

I love that they'll potentially be doing a sour batch for their contest. My question is this though, do you think they'll pick a winner with the shortest turnover in order to maximize on the whole contest? I mean would they rather wait 8-12 months for a barrel-aged sour, or pick something like a berliner that they can pump out in the very near future. I guess I'm just convinced it won't be a sour thats really out there (expensive, time consuming).

I think they'll try to pick the best beer out of the submissions they receive. It's not on the calendar as a special release or anything, so they aren't held to any specific time table. They have all the time they need to "get it right"

They did a sour for Batch 50 so it's hardly outside the realm of possibility.

That's certainly a good word. I know plenty of those homebrewers are making some bloody good sours. Here's to hoping one of them wins.

Actually batch 50 took so long they released it like 30 batches later (or something, you google people can correct me).

Batch 50 took 3 years to come out. I don't think they have much of a timetable for these things

i have a sour mango that's ready to go, though they just released mango hottenroth though.. i also have a sour cherry stout but i lost the recipe for that one and it was more of an accident beer as the barrel infected it, maybe ill just submit them for fun

Mango Hottenroth has some pretty mixed to sad reviews so it's worth a shot. I'm sure the Bruery can also repeat accidentally souring a cherry stout as well...
