Here's the email I just received. I noticed some chat about how they would do the lottery in the RS/HS Thread. (First time I started a thread - I hope this works). Here you go, for those interested.

    2014 Black Tuesday
Enter the drawing beginning today atwww.TheBrueryStore.com

It's that time of year again! Black Tuesday 2014 will soon be ready for sale to the public.
Every year we've worked to make the experience of getting this beer as pleasant as possible, and this year we are proud to announce a new method for those interested in purchasing Black Tuesday 2014. We will first be holding a drawing to determine who may purchase the beer this year, followed by an extended purchase period. There will be plenty of time to get your ticket into our drawing and to then purchase the beer. Below are the details on the Black Tuesday 2014 public sale and you can also see this information, as well as FAQs, on our blog, here.

    WHAT

The public sale of Black Tuesday 2014 will take place at the end of this month. In order to be able to purchase this beer, you will need to be selected from a free drawing. Drawings for winners will take place in late October and winners will be notified of how to purchase Black Tuesday 2014 via email. The drawing can be entered by anyone (whether a society member or non-society member), by "purchasing" a free entry on The Bruery Store website. There's plenty of time to get your entry into the drawing -- over 2 weeks' time! If you experience longer than usual load times while attempting to make your purchase, check back a couple hours later to make your purchase. Any individual may enter the drawing just once and duplicate entries will be deleted.

    WHEN

    Stage 1

October 8 @ 4 PM (PST): First day to enter the free drawing

October 24 @ 11:59 PM (PST): Deadline to enter the free drawing

    Stage 2

October 27: Drawing winners will be randomly selected

October 28: Drawing winners will be emailed and informed of how and when to purchase bottle(s). Sales will be conducted online, but please note that we can only ship within California. If you do not live in California, you, or a friend, will need to pick your beer up from our brewery.

    Stage 3

Drawing winners may purchase up to 3 bottles of Black Tuesday 2014 during their specified sale window that they were assigned via email.

If you are a member of our Reserve Society or Hoarders Society, your allocation sale has already begun as of 10/6/14. Check you email for the most recent information or log on to The Bruery Store website.

I for one like the idea of not having to drop everything to try and be online at the exact moment the sale starts and praying that the servers don't screw me over.

Except...the servers are screwing me over, even just trying to enter the drawing.

Restarting website. Please wait while we retry...

I like the new system, better than the grievances last year. Hopefully w a large bottle count everyone can get some.

If any of you need a trustee I'm 20 min away from the Bruery.

I never understood all the drama from last year. I created an account, logged in, got two bottles, and paid for them all within a few minutes time. Got on after lunch (GA time), took zero effort. If people would realize that they aren't going to sell out in 10 seconds and all try to crash the site at 9am exactly, it'd go a lot smoother.

I know that for me, it took about an hour and a half to actually get through and buy bottles. Not sure when you actually got on and got them but I don't think your experience was typical.

It ended up fine last year but didn't seem that way at first. I recall trying to get on when the sale stared and had trouble getting past selecting the beers into my cart. If i remember correctly, the timer would show up but then it was not possible to complete the transaction. This went on for at least an hour and finally I gave up and got back to work and forgot about it all until later in the evening (i'm east coast so it was still 3pm or so CA time). Got on from home and the site was working fine and was quickly and easily able to get 3 bottles. So yeah, it was easy enough last year but there was some initial stress and disappointment when it seemed like getting them would not be possible.

Ironically, i'm having a more difficult time entering the lottery than I did getting through the old way!

Yeah, to be sure, it was easy if you logged on later in the day once the initial rush had died down. I don't think anyone was getting through when it first went live. I work from home so I pretty much just sat and did work and checked the site every so often to see if I could get through.

As I said, it was later in the day, maybe 4pm my time, so like 1pm CA time? I don't know the time zone math but I definitely waited it out. I think anyone expecting the site to have worked dead on 9am or whenever it went live is an idiot, because everyone flooded it then.
