Absolutely. I don't know why I've been trying to talk reason. Clearly, this is only a matter of price. By the way, there are still American beers cheaper than Coors Light and Miller. Price - that appears to be the only test here people... the only test.

So, yes. I'm calling it! I'm caving...I'm conceding....I'm beat.....I'm finished. n1285 wins! n1285 wins! There are very cheap beers. Please, enjoy.

It certainly does. Cantillon at the brewery is quite reasonably priced. Give me $100 to spend at either the Cantillon brewery or the Bruery, and it's no contest. Cantillon wins every time. Oh, and you don't need to join any clubs/societies/whatever the code word of the day is to purchase the "good" stuff.

I don't think anything could actually compare to being at Cantillon. It is a pretty bad comparison to compare the Bruery to Cantillon in pretty much any situation. The comparison to Rodenbach was also awfull, for completely different reasons.

I pretty much stopped buying them once I realized I had a dozen or so and didn't want to buy any of them again. Tasty sometimes, but price is killer.

I finally got my first bottle, 5 Golden Rings, because it was on sale for $8 compared to something around $15.

Yes, beer criticism has no place on a beer forum.

Hopefully that beer doesn't give you a bad impression of The Bruery. It's not one of their better beers in my opinion, and I am sure a lot of people would agree with me.

To be fair though you've been a Bruery fanboy/homer since the beginning haven't you?

You've posted in this thread and added less than nothing to the conversation (besides obvious trolling).

Ok but was I wrong? Have you not been one of the biggest Bruery fans on BA since the beginning or am I imagining things? You want me to add something to the conversation? All of the Bruery beers I have purchased at retail have been overpriced for the quality and almost all were disappointing. That is great that they make awesome beers for parties and exclusive clubs and groups of people who show up to a bar all wearing the same t-shirt but the stuff that hits the shelves here is crap.

They keep all the good stuff in Cali and ship the swill to Colorado.

If anyone wants to say I was wrong about Black Tuesday 2009 or Barrel Aged Papier being amazing beers, I think history has judged my perception just fine. In the last five years The Bruery has made a lot of good beers and a lot of bad beers, but I think they're mostly good. Their barrel program is the largest and most diverse of any craft brewery in the country and is quite an accomplishment.

If I lived in another state and had access to their shelf beers would I buy them? The availability of 100% barrel aged anniversary is actually a huge accomplishment in my book. I would and do buy that. I think the only comparable beer on the market is North Coast Cellar Reserve Old Stock, which is similarly priced. I'm a fan of Smoking Wood as well. Oude Tart I think is worth $20, I would probably compare it to La Folie if we were comparing things. La Folie is a little cheaper (and NBB is much larger of a brewery), but I buy both. I actually rarely buy beers in the style of their daily offerings.

White Chocolate, Chocolate Rain, Black Tuesday, Otoiose, Oude Tart, Sour in the Rye, Fruet, Melange 3, are ALL worth every penny.
If you dont like the price, then dont buy it. Move on. But dont knock on the quality. They make VERY good beer.

I'm going to go pound a bottle of Black Tuesday now. Ive already called 911 ahead of time.

I haven't heard anything about it, but I don't usually condemn a brewery until I've had at least a few of their beers. I have heard great things about them, but I just don't have the money to buy their 750's right now. A few bars around here usually have at least one of theirs on tap, but I haven't asked how much they are though. Most I've bad for a pint (probably a 10oz. for their stuff) is $10 and it was for B. Nektar's Necromangocon.

My first Bruery was Otiose, but luckily, I didn't pay for it thanks to a generous friend. That beer almost literaly changed my entire thought about what beer is and can be. I now have a second bottle im sitting on thanks to ANOTHER generous soul on BA (he also hooked me up with a bottle of Ichago Highway). The price of that I THINK is around $20. if that sold around here, I wouldn't hesitate to drop $20 on it. I recently spent about $15 for a bottle of Rugbrod, and would also not hesitate to buy that again. AND I think I dropped about $25 to $30 for my bottle of Tart of Darkness, and that beer gave me a boner.

    And Fruet? Holy fuck.

    TL;DR

They aren't a gimmick. Their beer is worth the money.

    Please
Please. Tell me why it's terrible to compare two beers within the same style with similar ratings yet wholly disparate prices. You're right that the Bruery is a small regional brewery. Hell, their capacity is a 5th of Rodenbach's annual production. However, their shipping costs have to be a fraction of what Rodenbach is paying. Let's not forget the $400k in Reserve Society memberships that effectively function like Kickstarter backing, which surely alleviates a lot of the overhead related to beer being stuck in a barrel for 16 months.
