The Anniversary Party is on May 10th, so I have to imagine Sucre will be released right about then as well.

Speaking of the Anniversary party, does anyone know yet if you can bring a non-society friend as a guest? Is there a ticket you need to buy?

Yes, you can bring non-society members as guests. Assuming there's no change from last year, RS can buy two tickets each, HS can buy four tickets.

I am very curious to try the Tequila Barrel Sucre. It's sure to have a strong reaction one way or the other.

They haven't released an official and complete list, but the following can either be assumed or have been floated around:
    Bourbon - obvious
Rye - likely based on past releases
New American Oak - likely based on past releases
Brandy - likely based on past releases
Rum - not sure if they've said Rum for Anniversary, but with Rum BT coming out, it's likely
Cognac - HS only I believe
Madeira - there are pictures of Anniversary in Madeira barrels, I think it's < 20 barrels so could be HS only
Tequila - mentioned quite a bit, not sure if it's been confirmed

Other than that, maybe New French Oak or Port, but I haven't specifically seen anything about those.

I don't recall the thread, but someone posted photos of sucre in Madeira and Tequila barrels at the Bruery.

I'm hoping they don't redo the new american or french oak. I also hope they don't have more than 4 or 5 variants. For me, it would be a little overkill after that.

Agreed, I'd probably get a bottle of each just to see if they were able to improve upon it, but the new oak didn't work very well with Bois.

I would bet that we see at least 7 variants this year, and 10 wouldn't entirely shock me. In a few years, I think they'll end up dialing it back to 5 or so variants, but right now they're in a spot where 1) they're really interested in experimenting with barrel treatments and 2) people are willing to pay for those experiments. Until they start losing money on the weirder barrels, there's not much incentive to dial it back.

They use the same recipe every year, but use a Solera method where they blend from their previous anniversary beers. So it goes the other way around. Sucre is [partly] Papier.

I think you're spot on with this. At this point each additional variant is money in the bank. There are plenty of RS and HS who will max out whether it's 5 variants or 10 variants, so it makes business sense. I think they will make less of each variant, but I think they'll have more variety.

I am going to draw the line on the peppermint schnapps variant though. :grinning:
