I've recently become a HUGE fan of The Burnt Hickory brewery in Kennesaw, Georgia after picking up a few bombers of Didjits, Cannondragger, and Old Wooden Head while I was up in the Atlanta area a few weeks ago. Didjits might be one of my favorite beers of all time. It's that good. Anyway, I went over to their website because I was curious about taking a brewery tour in the near future (probably after July 1st when the new beer law goes into effect) but there is not a lot of information on their website. It just says they offer tours one Saturday a month. Does anyone have any information on their brewery tours? Maybe someone can chime in that has actually been on the tour. Thanks in advance!

You should sign up for beer talk atlanta if you do not mind deleting 20-30 emails a day. Scott and BH always announce tours on there and also on reddit atlbeer. Yes, go, the tours are sick! They also release one offs on the hour during the tour.

    @Hedeen, care to chime in?

I'm not a Redditor, but BHB is extremely active in the ATLBeer Reddit group. Be sure to check that out.

From what I've heard, they have brewed 3 different batches and tweaked the recipe a little with each batch. I bought a bomber last weekend which was bottled from the 3rd batch. I'm not sure if that made a difference or not, but I didn't get any acidity at all. The orange aroma was very strong, but the orange taste was barely there on the back end of the hops, which is what I prefer in an IPA. I don't like IPAs with added flavors that drown out the hop flavor. Anyway, just my .02.

Thanks everyone else for the replies. I started following their page on Facebook so hopefully they will announce tour dates on there. I get enough emails as it is so I'll have to pass on the 20-30 extra a day. haha

I'm with you, Hayden... Didjits is one of my favorite beers right now... I'd put it right up there with Tropicalia and Transmigration of Souls as far as what I seek out to keep in my fridge. I just converted my basement fridge to a kegerator and would like to initiate it with a keg of Didjits if I could get my hands on one. It's just too expensive to keep buying $9-10 bombers. I hope they convert to 12oz bottle or can format soon, so I can enjoy their beers a little more often.

I've been to the BHB tour once... great time! It's usually scheduled mid-month (they did their last one last Saturday, 5/16). It runs from noon to 5pm. They usually have 6-8 of their regular brews pouring all afternoon, then release a special one-off brew every hour on the hour. Last Saturday they poured a chocolate version of Digits, a Kaluha/Peanut Butter Stout, a Mango version of Didjits, and a lime/habanero version of Zeke as the special pours. I would highly recommend a visit!

Hayden/Hedeen, I think you need to take a tour on that alone! You were meant to drink beer there!

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely be going on a tour in the VERY near future. Maybe in July after the new beer law rolls out. Those sound like some very interesting brews. I'll be in Atlanta on Saturday for the Orpheus Year One anniversary and I'm hoping to pick up at least a few more bottles of BHB brews while I'm up that way and ToS and Tropicalia of course!

BHB does tours once a month right now, they just had one last Saturday. I've been several times and it's always a blast. In addition to the regular offerings they do hourly pours of one-off or variants and those are always great to try.

Definitely keep an eye on their Facebook/Twitter and as others have said check out Reddit ATLbeer, Scott is a regular poster there and he keeps us well-informed of what they've got going on. He's also hinted at doing an event very close to or on July 1st to take advantage of the new laws.

Maybe I'll see you there. I'm headed to the 2pm session. I'll be wearing a red penguin polo with a wife that looks like she's thinking "I can't believe we're at ANOTHER beer event!" (j/k... she does love some Orpheus sours)

I picked up 3 bottles of Didjits and a bottle of Big Shanty Graham Cracker stout from Hop City on Saturday. The Big Shanty was AMAZING but I believe I got an infected batch of Didjits. It didn't taste right at all. I was very disappointed.

What does "open house" mean, when talking about a brewery? They can only sell you 32 oz of beer and you're not able to purchase any beer to go. Bottles or growlers.

Actually these guys are basically lawless. Went to their anniversary party and will not be back. Not my kind of people or owners. Just IMO. If you're making a trip just head to Athens and go to CC.

Could you please expand on this? (I haven't been to Burnt Hickory but I love their beer)

All I am saying is they were slinging more beer than they were supposed to (lawless), Which I have no problem with. But being from the city, to me Kennesaw is country in comparison. So there for not my people.

So imagine a buntch of overserved country folk, it was basically a shit show. But hey, that is just me IMO.
(Also have heard from trusted industry people that the owner is an, lets just say an ahole.)

    The end.
