Alright, so I run a beer store and something very odd happened sometime last night. The store got locked up, the floors were clean. This morning, I come in and theres a big ass puddle of beer on the floor that appeared to be dripping from four pack of Southern Tier Nitro Creme Brulee (a pain in the ass to clean up). So I take it and open up the four pack, all completely pressurized, except one has a big dent, though it feels completely sealed. I go back to the shelf, the packages beside and behind this four pack are all completely dry and sealed. This is the only one that was soggy with rings around the bottom of the cans. So I weigh the cans and they're all .68lbs except the dented one is .62. Now, this was a good sized puddle for only .06lbs of beer to be missing.

Anyway, if anyone has any explanation as to how the hell a still sealed can couldve produced a puddle of beer, please let me know. I've been tracking my brain.

Might be a slight gap in the seam. Pick up the can in question, and squeeze it as hard as you can, while closely inspecting the seam where the lid attaches to the can.

Welcome to the BA site, 5thguy, where you get answers to any kind of beer problem. Hang around and enjoy the site.

Were all of these cans received at the same time, and are therefore likely from the same canning batch? If so, I'd isolate them with a drainage route to a sink, etc. Cans don't leak often, but where there's one 4-pack that did so there's likely to be more. I'd contact your distributor or the brewery for guidance about keeping or returning them.

P.S. You used the word 'exploding' in your title line. Was there evidence that a violent eruption occurred, or just a leak?

Sounds like a faulty can to me. Toss remaining 3 into the singles section and write it off as crap luck.

    I did thi
There was no stick on the side of the can is the thing.
There wasn't even a stickiness on the side of the can. Just a ring on the bottom but the can is completely sealed, as hard as you squeeze it, nothing gives.

There was a recall on these southern tier nitro cams because of exploding cans

You have a scale that goes to .01
Pretty sure you can find the culprit (certain to be nearby spill)
Surprised this doesn't happen more with all the fermenting cans

Good luck with any recall stuff. Back in November I had 2 nitro Pumkings explode in my basement. There was a recall hotline that I called. They took all my information, how much I paid for the 4 pack, my t-shirt size and some other information. They asked for pictures of the date codes on the cans which I provided. They said they would be in contact.

I never heard another thing from them nor received anything. So all that for nothing, crappy customer service. So.....I've added them to my "no buy" list. Too much other great beer out there to be supporting breweries that don't follow up on their promises to customers.

I've had 3 creme brulees in the back of my fridge since November and wish they would explode. God knows I'm never finishing that 4 pack.

It pretty obvious the butler did it with a candlestick in the packaging line.

Ironically, last week, I had my first leaking beer can. My wife bought a four pack from a local brewery. When I went to grab a beer the next day, I found a small pool of beer on the floor.

Well, one can had a very small puncture which had leaked about 4 ounces from the top of the can. The puncture was at the seem between the wrap around label and can. I ended up drinking the remainder of the beer (wasn't completely flat).

The can was kind of thin. I suspect the label wrapping weakened the can and it eventually sprung a leak.

I bet the beer you mopped off the floor still taste better than what's left in those cans

It's rare to hear a complaint about ST's products, and more rare (like never) to hear a complaint about their customer service. They are a well-run brewery. Kudos to them.

Well weve had these cans for months. There was no evidence of a leak before (or even after) the puddle on the floor. Which is why this is so baffling.
