Apologies if this thread doesn't belong, but I just went by The Cheeky Monk in the Orchard Towncenter (Westminster, CO), and it appears to be permanently closed. I can't find anything online about it closing or relocating; it just seems to have suddenly up and vanished, along with any mention of it. It's really a shame, as that was one of my top places to go for Belgians (and the Colfax location is a bit far for me). Anyone know what happened? And, in light of it vanishing, any recommendations on comparable places in the Erie / Lafayette / Westminster area? Cheers
We got a report that it's closed: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/23087/, listed as closed elsewhere, and it's no longer on their website: http://www.thecheekymonk.com or FB pages; although the Westminster page still comes up in searches.
Interesting. At the same time (their other restaurant) the Royal Hilltop in A-town inherited a lot of the Cheeky Monk's menu and has been getting really good taps as of late. They don't carry much in the way of Belgians, but their American craft taps are top notch.
Interesting. Didn't know about this place (or that they had restaurants other than the Cheeky Monk). I'll give it a try next time I'm down that way; thanks for the tip!
Definitely a shame - just recommended to someone earlier tonight. As for options; The Old Mine in Erie typically has a very solid tap list and a good (but pricey) bottle list. For very solid Belgian offerings suggest checking out 12 degrees in Louisville. All of the beers are Belgian in character and generally good to great.
My wife and I went to grab a waffle and beer the other night and it was closed. Crazy! No signs up or anything.
@mschantz I'll definitely give The Old Mine another go. I was there last year and their offerings seemed rather average (pork sandwiches were outstanding, if my memory serves me correctly). Looking at the current list, though, I'm rather impressed and it definitely looks like I need to stop by again.
That's a bummer. We're also up north and love that place. Parry's Pizza opens today on 120th and I-25. It doesn't specialize in Belgian beers, but there are 120 taps, and the beer list looks solid: http://www.parryspizza.com/northglenn/. I'm excited to give it a try. It looks like it does a lot of beer events, too, so it should be a fun place to frequent.
My wife and I found this place on a whim around the middle of 2014, and it quickly became a favorite for the Belgium beers. The staff was very friendly, including the manager, knowing most everyone by first name. Our inspiration for visiting Belgium came from here, as well as me dropping $75 per visit to DaveCo liquors on the imports. We arrived one Saturday evening to find that day was their last to be open. We were told the closing was because of too many problems with the property management. (We've been told other businesses are closing too...the wine and cheese place) We've since been to the Cheeky Monk on Colfax, but unfortunately, pales in comparison. No news about whether another Cheeky Monk will be opened to replace the one closed. What a serious bummer, but we still have the Yard House and Reubens (in Boulder), but a much further drive from Brighton.
