It is also friday, where people tend to bounce out of work early to beat the traffic home. Stopping by a brewery is not uncommon...so might want to readjust your views on those heading to beer events.

I go to quite a few during the week, fully employed, I just use those vacation days if I need to or clear it with my boss assuming I don't have any priorities/projects/meetings that I would potentially miss.

It isn't hard, it is just called time management. Probably about time to learn it. =)

Many people work half days on Friday, and some of us have the freedom to work whenever we want. Thank you for having such a narrow-minded view though.

There's nothing wrong with being a student, self-employed or on vacation. Why would you assume this is a negative opinion?

"Bounce out of work early"? "Vacation days"? What a concept. More power to those who can do so!

i hear you. my job is not that flexible either. it's not that often that i can bounce out.. whenever i have a day off and i'm in my neighborhood i always marvel at people hanging out in coffee shops and in the neighborhood and wonder what they hell these people do. i guess there are a lot of out of work actors, writers and musicians in my area, is the only explanation i can think of

    Think harder.

Ever been to an airport, hotel, restaurant, bar, retail shop, movie theater, brewery, amusement park, car dealership, bottle shop, sporting event... on weekday night or on weekend? Are people working? Do you think those people work 7 days a week?

that would have been a more clear way to put it

yes, I am familiar with that concept.

I guess you'd have to come to my neighborhood to understand what I'm talking about. I'm not talking a few people here and there lolly gagging. It's like a weekend day, on a weekday. And I don't live in a college town. It's just funny to me, is all. Hoards of people at coffee shops posted up with their laptops, really settled in for the day

I guess they must all work the graveyard shift

Lots of us have the ability to work remotely as well.

Add me to the "ability to work remotely category". Sometimes you need to take the part of town into consideration, as you did with your example.

In my area of Mira Mesa it is mostly tech w/ Qualcomm taking a large percentage of that. As such the majority their data centers are likely not down the hall. I always feel that if they cannot perform their job at a remote setting then they just can't perform their job.

As for myself I work in the tech industry and support my datacenters in vegas and quincy, WA. If I couldn;t do my work from my home, then what is to say I could do it from the office? Hell I had my laptop with me while I was at Churchill's on saturday just in case I was needed. Bust out the phone into a wifi hotspot, connect laptop, vpn in, and go to town all typy-typy-like while sipping on a few brews. Good times.

i live in Silver Lake which is filled with lots of aspiring screenwriters, artists, musicians etc.. nothing wrong with that of course.

i wish i could work from home, but i need to be around for meetings etc (work at an animation studio)..

Went to Dudes yesterday. Tap room is pretty nice, a few picnic tables in the center, standing room/counters along the sides and a mid size bar area. Two big ass TVs (they were showing football). Not at all a bad place to hang out in, it was nice and cool in there as well.

Okay now to the important part, the beer. Had taste of the Blood Orange juicebox beer and it was not at all what I expected. Cocoa nibs and vanilla up front and actually worked pretty well. Dont see myself drinking a full pour of it, but a pretty nice beer that was a lot closer to a Porter than a "Fruit/Vegetable" beer. I ordered a full pour of the California Pale because the description said it was Simcoe/Mosaic.... well it had hardly any nose at all, and the taste was all oxidized syrupy maltiness. Kinda hard to get through the last few sips. Buddy ordered the Grandma's Pecan on cask and damn we both swore it was the wrong beer. Way colder than any other cask beer I've ever had, mouthfeel wasn't creamy/smooth like other cask beers and the flavor was just off - not totally undrinkable but not pleasant.

Probably wouldn't go back, but it's across the street from Smog and next to Monkish so it's worth a stop in if you're curious and in the area...

Hehe, whenever I drive by a starbucks or something like that and see a lot inside I tend to joke that in order to be successful they must be seen writing their screenplays.

Animation seems like fun, but I could only imagine the time spent compiling some of that.
