When I was a lad I thought Michelob was the tops. My definition of "success" was to make $12,000.00 a year and keep my 'fridge stocked with Michesnob, as my buddies called it. Then I discovered Pete's Wicked and thought I'd died and gone to heaven. It's gone now. Ditto for my next love, Full Sail Golden Ale, also gone. The dogs bark and the caravans move on.

My travels in Europe (Germany, Austria, Czech) got me first hooked on German/European lagers and Heffs.

Gateway and introduction into craft was spearheaded by Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Lagunitas IPA, and Sam Adams variety packs.

But before any of it, I was pretty content with Olde English HG and various of AALs

Red Stripe - probably because of the bottle and the fact I couldn't neurotically pick off the label.

I grew up drinking beer at a very young age thanks to my beer loving family, but it was always Miller, Budweiser, Red Dog, Schlitz and various other mass-produced adjunct lagers. I experimented with New Castle, Guinness, and Sam Adams in my teenage years which I thought were a step above the beer I had grown up drinking, but not by much. I joined the Marines in 2003 and got orders to Camp Pendleton, California for my first duty station. I walk into the 7 day store on base not long after arriving on station to find a multitude of beer with a strange gargoyle on the label. I was familiar with the IPA style so I picked up my first 6 pack of Stone IPA in the winter of 2003 and fell in love instantly. To add to the newfound excitement of my discovery, I found out a few weeks later that the Stone Brewery was only a short half hour drive in Escondido so I made the trek out to the brewery soon afterwards. I spent many hours and drank many beers at Stone Brewery in Escondido and I consider that moment as the beginning of my journey into craft beer and have came a long way since then. Maybe soon I can make another trip out West to revisit the brewery that started it all for me.

My favorite for many years was Rolling Rock until AB bought them. My first wow beer was Samuel Smith's oatmeal stout, always enjoyed them on tour.

I'll second this. My first love was Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout-- and oatmeal stouts in general. Drinking Sam Smith's inspired my 4th ever batch of homebrew which was an oatmeal stout and it was easily my best recipe for years (you can find the recipe in the Homebrewing Recipes sub-forum titled Jamil's Oatmeal Stout - Partial Mash). Now though, I don't particularly care for Sam Smith's or the style in general.

Anchor Steam was my next favorite and still holds a very special place in my heart, though now I prefer their Brotherhood Steam. It's the dry-hopped variant of the classic and inspired my current favorite homebrewing ripoff/recipe.

Has to be Oldstyle. I remember as a kid going to get beers out of the cooler for my dad and his buddies. Needless to say one would always be open when I dropped them off, ha ha ha. I still remember that first taste, it was this magic elixir that I said omg I cannot wait to be older to have this all the time. All these years later I still have the memory of that first sip, it was the best sip of beer in my life. I still love to snag a 6 pack once in awhile just to have the nostalgia of those moments. So my original go to would have to be Oldstyle.....
