I had to read the whole thread through and like a whole bunch of posts.
I am not a hop head. And I love beer.
So much of the time it seems BAs expect the two to go together.
It warms my heart to see so much love for my favorite style!

I started with the american wheats and loved them.
Then I had Weinestaphaner (Hefe, hefeweizen dunkel, kristal weizen),and the standard shifted dramatically! Ayinger, Erdinger, Julius Ecter, Franzikaner, hacker-pschorr, Flensburger.....I love the stuff!

Widmer Hefeweizen was the first micro I ever had. And it basically started the craft beer movement in Portland.

Its also always on tap at Timbers games so its what fuels the Timbers Army.

I've gotta give it up to a Nashville local, Yazoo Brewery. Their hefe is pretty solid. Live Oak and SN are both awesome in their own right, but when I'm out I try to grab a Yazoo hefe.

I was drinking Weinestaphaner at The Gage last night.

    It was unbelievably amazing.

Other than Weihenstephaner, I really dislike most german wheats. That taffy/bubblegum sweetness is so gross.... tastes fake. ...I love SN Kellerweis & Weihenstephaner

The contradictory note of this post is so disjointed that it's difficult to respond, but how about we start with BA's definition of Hefeweizen:

    Add the BJCP flavor profile:

With the number one on their list of commercial examples being:

On top of that SN's Kellerweis being a prime example of the style characteristics very typical of a Bavarian Weizen -- bubblegum character and all -- with banana, vanilla and bubblegum being very close in character, I have to wonder just what German Wheats you've been drinking.

Weihenstephaner and Sixpoint Apollo. Cambridge Brew Co has a very good hefeweizen too.

The Paulaner I had recently was awfully good ... and I'm not much of a hefeweizen fan.

The love for this style is obvious here. It's got me wanting to try a few more, just to change things up ...

Weihenstephaner is my number 1, with Franziskaner bringing up a close second.

Cheers all! Big thumbs up to Beerswimmer. Haven't been exposed to many of this breed yet. So far my favorite is definitely Franziskaner's Weissbier. I too, really enjoy the banana tones in it. My most recent wheat beer was Easy Street from Odell Brewing Co. It turned out awesome. Although it didn't have banana in it, I really enjoyed it.

I support any and all revisits to the style...hefeweizens are a very welcoming type of beer. We don't judge here. Also, I've still got several Paulaner hefe's sitting in my fridge. So, I say to you, good style sir.

I have found it to be quite inconsistent, but it can reach astounding highs. When it's good, it's amazing.

That Paulaner worked out perfectly ... my choices at this particular place were adjunct lagers and standard-fare macro brews *or* the Paulaner. In fact, I didn't even know it was their hefeweizen; all I saw was "Paulaner" and said, "Let's do it!"

Wonderful brew ... it definitely backed up my faith in Paulaner.

Actually, it's very common to order either a "Weizen" or a "Hefe" as both are abbreviations to "Hefeweizen". The correct word for the overall style -Weißbier- is mainly used in Bavaria.

This is probably the most underrated style in my opinion. Obviously Weihenstephaner is pretty much the crown jewel amongst weizens, but I also think Troegs Dreamweaver deserves some love, too. Why that one hasn't been mentioned is beyond my comprehension.

Context has lots to do with my love of weiss beers.

For American-made, I go with Dancing Man. My wife and I, when we lived in Chicago (home sweet home), would go to Door County, WI, at least once a year and I'd get a case of Dancing Man. Spectacular beer.

For German, I go with Julius Echter. It was on tap at every single place in the German bars in Lincoln Square, Chicago, where we resided.

I also like Weihenstephaner and Live Oak--both awesome.
