Personally, I enjoy the hunt for new beers so before I travel anywhere, I check out what and where the best of the area's beers, stores and bars are before I go, make a list, check it twice, yada yada. When I do find something on my list, I get a fair amount of satisfaction from doing it myself and on road trips, I bring back some of what I like. My only misstep so far is that I only brought back one six-pack of Zombie Dust when in the Chicago area but then again, I was flying.

I absolutely love the beer selection we have in CO. Would I like to have breweries like FFF, Brooklyn, Founder's, etc.? Certainly. However having seen what many other areas get, I think we're doing fine.
Plus, that's half the fun of traveling to other cities.

Ultimately I believe all of these brewers that make this amazing beer will become so popular that their beer will be distributed all over the country. This will lead to less wants and more availability. Hopefully it won't equally dilute the quality.

Careful! It might dilute the flavors of "hype" and "rare." :grinning:

I am happy to live in the craft beer capital of Minnesota (Duluth) with a good local selection. Fitger's can fill enough growlers to satisfy me any day. I haven't been able to experience all these highly acclaimed brews yet. I do intend on going through the troubles to do so though. In the end I'll just drink local and be happy.

I guess in some way I believe that "the grass is always greener". Being where I am in East Texas it is pretty hard to even get the great Texas brews like Jester King.

Bay Area bars outside of Beer Revolution are pathetic. I moved from DC, a city much smaller than the Bay Area, less ppl, less local breweries and there were 3 or 4 bars that were superior than any bar in the Bay Area.

From Cleveland, more specifically Berea, and there are 2 bars within 5 mins from my mom's house that again are better than any bar the Bay Area has to offer. Again Beer Revolution aside.

I used to not care at all. I knew about great beers from the coasts that I couldn't get but didn't fret over it. I stuck with Three Floyds, Goose Island, Half-Acre, Bells, Founders, etc and whatever Belgian imports were readily available... and was happy with that.

Then I read some article about Westy 12 and bought into the hype. Made a trade to get some, and started researching other rare or hard to get beers. It can easily become an obsession. Many don't live up to the hype considering the work it can take to get some. Or they are good, but not better than what you can get local.

I say stick with local stuff, if you have to chance to try something new go for it. But don't drive yourself crazy trying to land that bottle.

I'm actually a beer ambassador in my trading. I'm getting deserving locals out into the world.

(I tend to see how good we occasionally get it here, but it's like Xmas opening a box from another state).

Hopefully I'm spreading the Love around, All in the Name of Beer.

I am comfortable with the notion that there are many beers I will not get (unless I get into trading) because they are not available in the area - all the Russian River, Three Floyds, Hill Farmstead, etc. stuff for starters - and that's okay - I just try to get my hands on the stuff that comes my way, knowing I will never run out of new beers to try, and there will be as many epic releases that I will try as I may not. It's no biggie.

    There's plenty of great beer.

Of course the grass is greener on the other side given that your grass has a ~20 mile radius and the "other side" is everywhere else.
