(emphasis above mine) Thanks, but I also see "should be" and "is" to be different things. So in the context provided by @guinness77 's original post, I see nothing wrong with a consumer choosing a less expensive option when there is one.

New York State has tax credit programs for NY state and NYC small breweries, so they don't pay those full state and city rates.

Governor Cuomo Signs Legislation Instituting New Tax Credits for New York City Beer Manufacturers
Out-of-state beers on the shelves, of course, do pay it, since state and city excise taxes on beer are charged based on where they are sold, not where they are brewed.

The 3 breweries mentioned were in NYC - thanks for clarifying.

My dad bought my beach beers at a distributor in Bensalem, I want to say the Sunshine Pils was right st $35 a case give or take a little, they only got 2-3 cases at that time. I think Sly Fox was in the same price range. But that was in early July and I've got a fuzzy memory.

I drink a lot of different Pilsners.. $9.99 a 6 Pack is the most I am willing to for them. The same thing is also true APA's and IPA's.. The thing about Pilsners is that there are a lot of good ones that cost less than $9.99. As long as they are fresh there is no good reason not to buy the less expensive ones.

Around 10 bucks (or less) is pretty much my target price for quality Pilsners. I 'violated' that rule a couple of weeks ago when I bought a 6-pack of Jever for $11.49. I just couldn't control by exuberance on finding a German brewed beer that was less than 3 months old; finding fresh German brewed beers does not happen often for me.

    Cheers!

I don't see a need to pay more than $10 a 6 pack for an IPA either. Especially since the best one - SN Celebration, will be available soon.

As previously reported, it looks like prices will be going up next year in Germany. Sorry the article is in German, maybe Google translate for those interested. Generally these increases translate into an additional 1 EURO/crate and 7-9 EURO/50L keg increase. Usually the "chain" splits the increase, typically it's EURO 0.60 for brewery EURO 0.25 for logistic and EURO 0.15 for retailer.

Does the government in Germany set the price of beer in Germany?

No. It's not like the northern European countries. Actually in a super highly regulated country like Germany, it's one of the huge exceptions. There is almost zero regulation on the sales side in regards to deals, price off, contracts, licensing, etc.

Keep hunting! Every trip I find some gem by just driving and then deciding whats close by when I need to eat/drink. Last trip it was an idyllic place not far from Bamberg -
    Diller Keller, Dörfleins

Pretty sure the kellerbier there was only 2.10 E.

    Franken Rocks!

I can get 6 packs of Marble's Pilsner for ~ $9, which works just fine for me. I always have cans of that in my fridge and it is the one beer I have drank more than any other since moving to Albuquerque a couple years ago.

That's a fantastic Pilsner, probably one of the best in the country.
