I find that with a lot of coconut beers, I don't a really pronounced coconut flavor, but more of a general sweetness/tampering down of the alcohol and other deeper flavors.

Like you I didn't pick up a ton of coconut in Benthic.

Weekly reminder that I'm the only person that found Prop '14 to be pretty coconut forward, and who still maintains that Prop '13 didn't taste that strongly of coconut.

With Benthic, it's more of the Prop '13 thing to me; it manifests itself in a milky creaminess that you wouldn't get without the addition of coconut. It's definitely still a coffee stout, but the coconut makes it a standout one to me.

I also initially found Prop 14 to be very coconut forward. However more recent bottles I have had I found there to be almost zero coconut remaining.

If you ever can try Coconut Vibes from Side Project, I'd highly recommend! It's about as coconut forward as you can get.

Yep, I think I got a total of like...5 bottles, maybe? (It was my wife's favorite beer, so any time it popped up somewhere, I tried to get a bottle)

The first 2 were great, and super coconut-forward, the 3rd (or 4th? who knows) was a cinnamon bomb, and the final one, a year or so later, was a little more balanced. It's one of the main reasons I don't get excited when I hear there's been a Prop 14 sighting nowadays.

I had 3 bottles of Prop 14 and multiple pours at FOBAB in 14, but I never got much coconut flavor. I remember it being present in the aroma, but the beer tasting more like alcoholic cinnamon raisin toast. It's definitely my favorite variant and yes I've had Prop 13, which I actually tasted a good amount of coconut in. My last bottle of 14 I cracked with my brother when the Cubs won the world series and while it was still a fantastic beer, the flavors were fading.

I thought Benthic ‘17 had a good amount of Coconut, but then again maybe that’s because I don’t often consume a lot of coconut or coconut flavored foods. Haven’t tried the Benthic ‘18 yet.

Benthic 18 has some nice creamy coconut flavor to me. But I liked that it was in balance and avoids the sun tan lotion coconut flavor. I prefer Benthic to Double Dose actually

18 is loaded. Most coconut I’ve tasted in a stout since Prop 13.

Yeah, this is what I'm saying; coconut in these beers is divisive as hell.

I didn't find Benthic '18 THAT coconut forward, but I've got bottles to try and change that thought.

I heard from a friend CoCo Jones has a suntan lotion flavor. Anyone confirm or dispute that? Best coconut flavor I ever had was from Henna B1 draft variant. Amazing toasted d flavor. Not sure that can be replicated on a full batch scale

I think you can safely demote that person from “friend” to “acquaintance.”

For anyone interested, Sailor's Kush was still available at Lincoln in 4-packs as of last night.

    My thoughts:

Sailor's Kush - Excellent, dank IIPA. Very impressed.

Double Daisy - Was pretty good, I have always liked regular Double Daisy.

Boat House - Did not stand out in any way and I passed on the 4-pack. I could see if others liked it; just not a great mouthfeel and taste to me.

You are correct about the bottle but not the draft variants. They had coconut and maple variants where the strawberry was removed.

No Sailor's Kush anymore at Lincoln but still have 2 packs of BBA big hugs. Also the Fonta Flora collab pilsner is awesome.
