I don't recommend going early, unless you want to stand in line. There's usually a huge line for these types of releases. I would recommend heading to the shop later in the evening. You will for sure have the option to pick up bottles. They usually cap growlers at 64oz per person from what I remember.

If you don't make it Friday, I'm sure Saturday they will still have bottles and growler fills to go.

I was at the Beer Hates Astronauts release last month (first release I've been to there) and it was a four bomber limit along with whatever the growler limit was (didn't get one filled). I'm guessing it will be the same.

I understand it's a no no in the city but has anyone shared bottles in line at HA for a release?

My point is its also illegal in NYC and Other Half posts warnings about it all the time but I have buddies who do it every time they are in line there. Last time I stood in line for a HA release it was the day after my best friends wedding so I was way too hung over to even think about it or notice if anyone else was haha.

Don't. You risk getting the brewery in trouble.

Think about it, Brewers like beer. They want you to drink beer. So there is probably a good reason they ask you to not drink beer for a while.

I wonder if there will be a line if I get there at noon, or is it just better to wait until the evening.

I definitely don't want to stand in line.

Yeah, I typically swing by after work, but I'm going out of town today, so I was wondering the same. I assume there won't be a line by noon, but I've given up expecting to accurately predict the behavior of beer nerds.

I'll be in line all day, just bottle sharing away.

I have heard this argument before but I dont think it could actually come back on the brewery legally. I've certaibly never heard of it actually happening anywhere. If you are bottle sharing outside on their property, I understand. Bottle sharing on public sidewalks is on you. How can the brewery be held responsible for the people in line?

That said, people bottle share at all releases. They are usually respectful and smart, not keeping open bottles in plain view or leaving garbage on the streets. Be smart and respectful and you'll be fine.

I've always assumed that the issue was that releases would be shutdown/altered if people were shown to be violating the law time and again. For example, Vav always asked people not to bottle share at LP Binny's on Thanksgiving/Black Friday, which I assume was so that cops wouldn't come by and say "you can't let people lineup for this event anymore."

I'm guessing that if there were repeated instances of a brewery having a release where people were illegally drinking, the powers that be would have an issue with this. Even though it's outside their property, the gathering is only occurring because of the brewery's events. I think breweries (and all alcohol establishments) have enough of a headache with all the laws and regulations, so cutting out this potential problem is a smart move.

Bottom line, if they ask you not to bottle share and drink in line...listen to them. If you do drink/share in line, that's a jerk move.

Can people really not congregate an hour in a line without drinking?

The lines at Binnys LP are also almost completely limited to their property as it is huge. Not saying that the breweries can not or should not ask their customers to refrain. I just dont think they are likely to face any actual legal repercussions.

I was first five in line. Probably 30-40 people behind. Good thing I popped the Chocolate Rain and Black Tuesday I don't know how I would have survived without them.

Yeah, acting like we treat opening beers in line as a necessity is being disingenuous and prudish. It is a great opportunity to open beers you would prefer not to open alone as you are surrounded by beer lovers.

No one seems to have a problem with bottle sharing in lines at major releases such as New Glarus. Half Acre has never even asked anyone not to bottle share, have they? So why bitch about it if they haven't us not to?

There's a slight difference between NG, where the entire queue is on their property, and HA, where the line is on the city sidewalks.
