For me, it isn't the price/bottle. It's that a full allotment is 10 bottles. While it's cool that HA is making the wait worthwhile, that would mean roughly 20% of my cellar is Big Hugs. :grimacing:

believe me, I completely understand where you're coming from; I just don't recall seeing a brewery capitalizing this type of thing. In my experiences, the brewery will charge the same cost for bottles, but then throw in a glass, mug, shirt, etc... and the total amount would = everything added up.

i.e. $152 for the beers, and then a total of $48 in merch to = the $200.

To me, it seems like HA is simply charging a premium for not waiting in line.

Split it with someone. $20 a bottle isn't unreasonable..

How much do you make per hour if you break it down. You would most likley need to wait in line for 4 plus hours to get everything. I will pay 10$ per hour all day long to never stand in another beer line.Take prop day for example I would have gladly paid 20$ cut the line.

Yeah, I already posted that the price/bottle is fine. However, at some point, my capacity for spending/storing/drinking/waiting is reached, especially since I'm not a huge fan of regular Big Hugs. I'm also a hypocrite because I will payup and shove my 4 regular DL in the cellar to get the variant.

I dunno, assuming the glasses are around $10-15 bucks, you're basically paying $20-30 not to stand in line, and also to have them hold the beer for you to pick up whenever you'd like during the week. That's pretty convenient.

I'm not saying I'm always a proponent of "time = money," but I don't think it's entirely unfair to charge people a little extra if they're not willing to put in the legwork the day (or morning) of.

Think of it this way: If this were Binny's offering a BCS bundle, everyone here would be freaking out about how cool it was that they wouldn't have to put any energy into lining up Thanksgiving night, but would still be able to get an excellent allocation.

Again, not my point. If this were a secondary market or store or something to that extent it'd be 1 thing as that sort of thing happens fairly frequently. I simply don't recall a brewery actually doing this sort of thing, that's all.

They do it all the time. Abraxas every year if a perfect example. 3 x $20 beers are magically 75 bucks and you dont have to wait in line.

That's true, there usually isn't this much of a discrepancy that seems to equate to charging a bit more for the convenience factor. That being said, I think it's a great move. As @SeanBond noted, I (and many others) would do it in a heartbeat for BCBS.

If nothing else, it's interesting; they've succeeded in getting a bunch of comments on the HA thread on BCBS week...
Going in with one other person makes this somewhat manageable.

Fair enough. Honestly wasn't aware that Perennial charged more for the convenience.

And like I said, i by no means would fault anyone for taking advantage of this as the convenience does count for something... for me, personally, it just isn't worth it & I was somewhat surprised to see the brewery itself doing it this way.

Actually the best thing to do would be to have 10 people throw in 20 bucks a piece and just do a tasting of all 4. Everyone essentially winds up with one whole bottle of pours.

Doesn't it seem crazy that so many places are doing stuff in such a small window? I know it's stout season and all, but there is just way too much going on.

I think everyone is realizing that there's a lot of money to be made with "Black Friday" or "holiday" beer events. For the longest time it's mostly been BCS that kicks off the holiday season for beer nerds, and I think other breweries are realizing that if Target and Best Buy and Sephora and Victoria's Secret, and hell, even Whole Foods, can get into this type of promotion, they're leaving money on the table themselves. I mean, c'mon, Moody Tongue is putting out a BA stout on Black Friday!

Half Acre knows they've got a cash cow in Big Hugs Day, and they're amping it up even more.

But then how would you trade them for sweet whales?? :grimacing:

But in all seriousness splitting this between two or even multiple people actually is a great idea.
