The Half-Acre thread (2018)

Magick still hanging on today, I'm thinking weather has something to do with that. I asked if they thought it would sell out tonight and the guy said some should be left tomorrow but not much. He said it will be gone by tomorrow close, grab some if you are putting it off.
I have to rate it very high (I love sours) and would put it on pace with Petrus as far as taste. Clean leathery oak flavor. Still waiting on a bottle chilling now for a nice home pour.

 

That good news for sure. Was not sure if the bombers that hit Distro last year were a one-off or not.

 

Just think of how great it would be if that was a case limit as well.

That's great because I thought I might miss it when I went on vacation but it usually hits about a month after Galactic . Thanks for the heads up.

If the quanitt of regular DDC was any indication, I don't think finding any of HA canned offerings that hit distro will be difficult to obtain.

I thought it was solid. Nothing to write home about. Enjoyed Virga more.

 

Tried Virga b4, liked it, but aint a sour man. $30 is a lot for a bottle of beer, BA or not. Might pick up a bottle just cause the lable is so bad ass.

What special draft were they offering? Is it still Orin?

 

Virga is $23 and Magick is $19. Both great sours.

Thanks for the correction, mist have misread it. Orin + the BA Big Hugs have been on my to drink list for a long time. Have to stop in real soon.

 

Wasn't Virga $30 when it was released? Did they drop price to get rid of stock that wasn't moving?

 

I think it's $30 if you buy a bottle to drink in the taproom. I just looked back at heavy gems instagram post and it confirmed $23.

 

Is Magick still available?

 

I see they aren't doing growlers or howlers of GDDC when it comes out - I thought they did last year, so I was kinda surprised at that.

I also saw that The Big North is Aug. 19th...which is when I'll still be up in northern MI on a family vacation.

 

Interesting about the Big North, haven't seen that anywhere else!

 

They just sent out an email about an hour ago.

 

I will skip anything I have planned for the Big North. That was probably the best beer event I have ever been to.

 

Of the best beer related events I've been to, Half Acre has the top 4. It's ridiculous how awesome they are.

 

I feel like my liver is still recovering from last year's Big North. Twas a great time, but good lord they made it WAYYY too easy to drink too much. Those "tasting glasses" that they gave out were pint sized and they pretty much gave you a full pour of everything, 15% ABV Orin included.

I wasn't signed up for their mailing list until right now. Was there any word about when tickets go on sale in that email?

I remember for their anniversary party 3 years ago, I walked in after I got my wristband, and saw BA big hugs at a station (then called Mecha Hugs) and said "I'll have that please". The guy the handed me a red solo cup that was completely full. I just looked at him and said, "oh, so that's how we're doing this tonight"

I end up walking home from a friend's house afterwards, and fell in some rose bushes, completely scratching up my arms and legs.

It was a great time.

 

I can't agree with this enough. The only bad thing was how awful I felt the next day.
