What did you think of Old Rasputin Nitro compared to the regular OR?

@HorseheadsHopHead , if you come across Good Nature Brewings Imperial Stout, Great Chocolate Wreck, you should pick one up. Are you in Horeseheads? You can get it and the Bell's 30th at Finger Lakes Beverage in Ithaca if you don't mind the drive.

I prefer Imperial Stouts without added flavors. My 3 favorites are Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, Narwhal and Founders Imperial Stout.

Not to be that asshole, but Black Chocolate Stout doesn't actually have any chocolate added. I guess that just goes to show what you can do with malts alone sometimes.

I find that the added flavorings of coffee or chocolate generally don't go as well in beer as the suggestions of those flavors made by the malts, so I'm with @dennis3951 all the way on that one. When I have a coffee stout I think of it as more of a 'coffee flavored beverage' than a beer.

I agree with many reco's on this thread especially Ten Fidy, ANYTHING by Clown Shoes, BCBS, Oak-Aged Yeti (my og gateway aside from Raspy), Stone IRS, Bible Belt, Siberian Night, IBB, etc...

...but this thread is missing the best non-BA RIS by far, IMO of course, and that is Pretty Things Barbapapa.

Yup, but as competition increases this will change.

My all time favorite stouts have to be Stone IRS with Espresso Beans (even more so aged in bourbon barrels...ie Mikhail's Odd) and Xocoveza Charred....fucking love those beers. Also gotta give Big Bad Baptist and Ten Fidy some love. Hope to try BA Ten Fidy tonight on draft for Stout Day  Just hope it hasn't kicked haha.

Totally agreed! It may be nuts to say, but I actually like BAPTF better. It is my favorite BA stout.

I grabbed a 4 pack for 7.99. As far as I remember (going back 3-4 years) these were always in 4 packs. Either way this is the best deal for a 10% stout out there.

Hearing all this praise makes me think that Bell's might make the best shelf stouts in all of the land. I could drink Expedition every day. That beer is divine after a year. Kalamazoo is also great. Wish they distributed to Rhode Island or New England for that matter so I could get my hands on that 30th.

I just recently determined that stouts are my favorite style.. By far.. Assassin, Abraxas, Ten Fidy, Speedway, SR-71.. I love sours and IPAs, but nothing can compete on a consistent basis.

Drinking a KBS right now.. So good.

I prefer the regular to the BA version as well. It is remarkable with about 8 months on it.
