I think you're right on the mark, and it is coincidentally appropriate for me as I just paid $13.99 for a twelve ounce bottle of Tweak. It's very, very good but it is no BCBS.

I had BCBS for the first time a few days ago and was pretty much blown away, despite not generally caring for BA beers.
I will be returning to the bar in a few days to have another and/or hopefully try the Barleywine, which is another style I'm not overly fond of. Yet if it's anything like the stout I am in for a treat.

So yes it is worth the price.

I love BA stouts and have tried many but none can top BCBS. If you dont love bourbon forward beers then this it isn't for you. That being said you got quite a deal for it.

Wait, so now you FIBs are claiming bourbon barrel aged stouts as "Midwest styles?" That may be the most ridiculous f'ing thing I've read in my 10+ years on BA, which is really saying something given the amount of f'ing ridiculous stuff I've seen on this site over the years.

Bourbon County is pretty awful, especially the variants. Get that vile dreck out of your city. I'll pay full price + shipping to everyone who sends 4 packs and bombers of them to me, and throw in complimentary 4 packs of Dragon's Milk.

I'm no expert, but a quick google search seems to indicate that GI was one of, if not the, first American breweries to age a beer in bourbon barrels, and certainly one of the first to popularize it.

I dunno if you could call that Midwestern style, but it's not a stretch to say it developed from there.

Why do some BA's think waiting in line for hours is fine but paying more is wrong?

I think BCBS is worth the ~$125 case price but the 4 pack upcharges around here are a little high at $28 a 4 pack.

I paid $24 for a bottle of 2012 in a bar recently - did I regret it? No. An incredible beer, and one, which if lucky, you can find in London / UK for around $13 a bottle from an off licence.

If you look at it, it is not that expensive in comparison. I think people get frustrated trying to get it however.

    Relatively Speaking:
    Barrel Aged Narwhal - I paid 18.99 for a 22oz Bomber
    Double Barrel Jesus - I paid 22.99 for a 22oz Bomber
    There are also beers like
DFH 120 Minute (I know it is a IIPA just sayin) & World Wide Stout 8.99 a 12oz bottle. ($17.98 a bomber basically)

I can still grab single bottles of Burbon County stout for $6.99 a 12oz Bottle ($13.98 a bomber basically)
and Barley Wine for $7.99 ($15.98 a bomber). I am promised a bottle of Vanilla Rye @ 24.99 but well worth it in my opinion.

I think just the fact that BA Narwhal costs more per ounce makes the point, Burbon County is priced fairly.

    Cheers!

I would gladly pay $30 a 4 pack, there is nothing else like it. It is quite simply my reference BA stout. With that said, it's too easy to find on tap to justify waiting in line for bottles. If I happen to stumble across some regular, I'll buy it to age for sure, but other than that I'm perfectly content to drink it from the keg whenever I can. All the deliciousness, none of the hassle.

Luckily my local held onto to kegs of the 2013 versions of the stout and the barleywine - OMG, they were both sublime but that barleywine aged just a bit more was really the best I have ever had. The bourbon "bite" had mellowed and honestly, it seemed to have even more carbonation - certainly a smoother mouthfeel that was a joy.

I live easily not ever worrying about this beer or any beer. I guess I'm just not paying too much attention to what others obsess about. I'll work on it. Promise.

I was very fortunate. I showed up at the only local store that carries BCBS 2014 and scored the last 4 pack. It was a gift to me from my non-beer drinking father. It ended up being $25 and I have not tried it yet. I cannot comment on wether or not it is worth the hype or price however, $25 for a 4 pack is steep though.

Every time I want to call someone insane for being willing to shell out lots of money and/or to wait in line for a beer that is probably better, but not in a quantifiable way, than its competitors, I realize that the same logic can be applied to my patronage of the craft industry in general, so I keep my mouth shut.

I do find it interesting to see where different people's level of pain is, though. Something tells me that it is only roughly correlated to income. Anyone know of any studies done on this?

Hmm. Well, considering the first known introduction to the craft community of barrel-aged stouts was by Goose Island in '92, I'd wager it's a midwestern style. Sure, they are everywhere now, but they are a really big deal in the Great Lakes area, unlike no other place.

In retrospect, a beer type being created, distributed and made popular in a certain region apparently does not grant it regional style status.

    Oi.

Next you're gonna to tell me marzens aren't a mid-Europe style because they are made and loved everywhere.

It is an extremely good beer. This is the first year I went after it. The price is a little high, but I was happy that I was able to get it.

We all paid it and have it and have had it so how is this thread validating anything or answering something?
