    People my age definitely did not grow up with soccer (their are a few of us in here). And I think if you haven't played it, you don't know it as well, and might not be as interested in it. People your age may or may not have grown up with it, but it's still not that popular in the country overall. And it's a self-fulfilling prophecy, because you are more likely to get interested in a popular sport (or a popular TV show, or a popular fill-in-the-blank) because besides actually watching/following it, you get to discuss it with other people. So popularity breeds more popularity.

    Also, football is made for TV, and is great to watch, and nothing comes close (IMO) from that perspective. Hockey, on the other hand, is amazing in person but sucks on TV. And all the other sports fall somewhere on a spectrum from both perspectives.

    Kevin -- re: soccer -- get your kids playing -- you'll spend half of every weekend at the field, and learn enough to follow along. I coached about 400 baseball games between my two kids, and was VP of our local youth baseball league, and I sitll think for really little guys (and gals) soccer blows baseball away.

    We've had a couple of rounds with between 15 and 20 people, I think. If the number is really low, you could always wait a few weeks to kick the round off.

    Yeah soccer is way better introduction sport for kids, my son just finished his first season of T-Ball and it was insane trying to watch them play at 5-6 years old haha. He has the attention span of a gnat on cocaine, so needless to say he spent time eating grass, chewing on his glove and staring off into space.

    Ohhh, those were the good ol days! Freeman, Brooks, Sharpe, Chumura, Levens, Henderson, Rison, man I could go on all night. I'll probably get blasted for saying this but I own a #4 jersey from the Jets and a #4 jersey from the fukin Vikings, yea I know that's bad. So I know how you feel about Favre!

    Gnat on cocaine, that's hilarious! I'm definetly gonna use that. I put my son in soccer when he was 3 1/2, it didn't work out to well... it was pretty damn funny though.

    so I will probably "announce" this at least one more time (although that's not definite) since with the number of posts in this thread it's easy to miss one. BUT...

    NBO - Horizontalhood Trip #9

    If you would like to be in consideration to be the recipient of a 6-shipper box filled with great stuff, please BM me your shipping address (or just say "it's in the directory"). If you would prefer to skip this trip and sign up for a future trip, don't send me anything and wait for the next person to post their NBO to sign up. Also, please let me know IF there are any specific styles you do or don't like, since that may impact what's in the box or who I choose. Signup period ends at 8PM on Wednesday, May 20th -- I'm avoiding midnight since I never know which of the two days that is, plus this way I can give a few hints before I ship on Monday the 25th . And I know I'm giving more time than usual, but that's just because I figured I might as well post this early -- I won't get a chance to pack or ship anything for at least a week. Wednesday night I will randomly select the recipient and start posting hints as to who it is. Box will be shipped on the 25th!

    Trip #1 - Texas (@Clarkson )--> Illinois (@Ncpogs )
    Trip #2 - Illinois (@Ncpogs )--> NJ (@Syracuse12)
    Trip #3 - NJ (@Syracuse12) --> VA (@Dave_Treat)
    Trip #4 - VA (@Dave_Treat) --> FL (@valrxman)
    Trip #5 - FL (@valrxman) --> PA (@JNForsyth)
    Trip #6 - PA (@JNForsyth) --> MA (@xICooRsYIx
    Trip#7 - MA (@xICooRsYIx) --> IN (@MCMASTERSANCHEZ)
    Trip #8 - IN (@MCMASTERSANCHEZ --> NY (@Mikexw)
    Trip #9 - NY (@Mikexw) --> ???

    See official rules below....
    ----------------------------------------------
    How Horizontalhood works:
    1) Some of my favorite beers have come from a brewery “Sampler” trade where I ask my trading partner to throw in a whole brewery’s lineup. If I didn’t do this, I would have only had Lunch, and not a tiny beautiful something. I might have only had Jai Alai and not Tocobaga. I night have only had Milller Lite and not MGD (just seeing if anyone is paying attention). So the purpose of this BIF is to showcase your local brewery’s line up and send something that wouldn’t normally be asked for. Show that your local brewery is not a one trick pony.
    2) The current holder of the Horizontalhood box will make a post in the Locals BIF thread saying that the signup period for the next Trip is open and will be open for 2 or 3 (or 9) days. Anyone that would like to be a potential target for the box would send their address information in a BM to the current holder of the box. To be eligible the person must have:
    a) participated in Locals BIF rounds 1, 2 (summer 6'er), 3, 4 (Winter 6’er), ACJ BIF or be one of the new faces (avatars) that have recently joined us prior to this Trips NBO post -- that's basically the guys (and gal) in the directory and about 3 or 4 others.
    b) have not already received the Horizontalhood box.
    3) After the signup period is over, the current holder will randomly pick the next lucky recipient of the Horizontalhood box. They will not announce this person nor the number of people that signed up, but instead will start posting hints as to where the box is going (BIF style hints). If no one signs up to be the next recipient then, as the original founder, @Clarkson will be the final recipient (hopefully without him knowing that it is coming to him).
    4) The holder of the Horizontalhood box will fill the box with high quality local bottles from A SINGLE LOCAL BREWERY ONLY, and ship it to the target. Make it a kickass box, but with this group of people I know we won't have to worry about that. Also, add the targets name to the tracking board in the box and add any 'decorations' that you wish to help commemorate the box's visit to your state. You may add one piece of swag in place of one beer, but it has to come from the brewery that is in the box.
    5) Once the box is received by the target, they will post the pr0n for all to enjoy.
    6) Start over at #1

    You do not have to enter every signup period. You can pick and choose when you want to be in consideration to be the next recipient. This would be nice if the current holder of the box is from your own state or an adjoining state or if you.
    Cheers!

    I am going over the normal time limit, but will leave this open for a little over a week to allow everyone the opportunity to sign up. Sign ups will end at 8PM on Wednesay, May 20th.
