Would that be a soap on a rope?
Number anti hoarding day.
Got confirmation from @Syracuse12 that "Double" barrel BBB is in fact eligible for Numbers antihoard Thursday and this us damn good thanks @JoeyIce3
When I grabbed my beer yesterday I was looking for an excuse to drink this and of course since it's me I had to drink both the regular and Barrel Aged together. The regular I believe is batch 1 of Bitches Bank in a 500 ml bottle. Look at the dust on that one.
18th Street Bitches Bank Batch 1 and BA Bitches Bank. Cheers locals
Couldn't think of any numbered beers when @Syracuse12 mentioned tonight's theme but after some digging I found not one but two numbered beers.
First, PN4 courtesy of @Cdolan04
This very much reminded me of HF's Civil Disobedience series of blended wild ales. Awesome. Thanks Chris.
Second numbered beer was...interesting:
3F Golden Doesjel. I understand it's meant to be flat but it really just tastes like sweat.
Before or after you drop it?
Pics or it didn't happen. Tasteful nudes are always encouraged, right @sembo ?
You mean the taste of the tears that drip down your face every time the Patriots beat the Jets.....
Anti-hoarding numbers edition.
If you aren't going to post it publicly..... Do you have FaceTime? (Asking for a friend)
So, this post is super late. I apologize @treznor. In hindsight, I should have passed on this round. For those who don't know, I'm getting married Saturday and have either not had the time to post here or just forgot. Anyway - my second three beers from @treznor
Burial Houtenhamer Double BA Imperial Stout. Very good. Quite drinkable for 10%. Fairly sweet, but not sickly sweet (no AC or Bruery nonsense).
Wicked Weed Dark Age. Even better. Not BCBS, but still really good. A notch above the Houtenhamer but for reasons I can't really explain. This beer also went down quickly.
Olde Hickory Appalachian Walker. An excellent barleywine, although one that must be sipped. It's just too rich to do otherwise. This is one of those beers that tastes "complete" if that makes any sense, like the brandy, barrel, and base beer belong together.
Thanks again Mike. I'll get a box out to you for posting so late. Again, sorry about that.
Congrats on getting married! No worries about being late and certainly don't send a box. Glad you enjoyed!
GATHER THE KLEENEX!
Damn @PeterR is on a rampage! this box is full of mega wants!
Tioga Mocha midnight!! - @campa86 got me hooked on their beers and Mocha is one of my favorite pastry stouts!
SARA - Foeder #2 - has to be amazing
SARA Bright Sea Blonde - sounds perfect for summer
CASA - Bayas de la casa.. never had a less than outstanding casa beer!
TRB - For Ever More- This beer made me regret not joining again, thanks for reading my mind!
Alesmith Boxcar--- ALLLL the best Adjuncts! can't wait to dig in
Thanks A million Pete!
@Cdolan04 -- this is insanity... i don't know how ill ever get even with you on this!
And no, lol, i wouldn't ever trade this for Mead, Cinnamon is the king of Pastry stouts!
But i have an idea...
thank you so much!
Hope wedding prep is going well Reed, if you need a break I bet @Devman171 would share some of the beer he got today...
Beer mail from @RuckIt areived this morning. Asked for the 4 four packs to stock my drinker fridge, bottles and top Can were straight extras. Totally unnecessary but greatly appreciated Dave! Let me know if you ever need anything from my area.
Reed will be driving right by my house today.....
so you know he wonlnt stop by
Frankly, I'm surprised he even told you about it.
In case anyone was not aware, @whyteboy003 informed me this morning that he sent out his last beer the other day and is now completely out. He was embarrassed by this and does not want to ask for help. It's time like this that we need to come together and support him. Please reach out to matt and let him know that you love him and want to help. Any boxes would be greatly appreciated.
I thought you needed to be water skiing to jump over a shark.
The way I read this is your out of beer and just not fessing up to the point. I think we all should pack up our best clown car boxes and ship them off to you!
I'll BM you Sandy. You're my kinda guy
@dannyfayy and @robgage sent some note saying I won two lifs I didn't even enter so they sent this madness:
All new ticks here. I hear a lot about the Casa stuff so I'm really excited for those! And some coffee from Haiti!
And then they jumped the shark...
Can't wait to send the box I owe for the MS lif now, thanks so much guys!
Ok. No excuse. I was a terrible member of this last BIF. I drank all the beers on time except one when I had to go to a funeral and drank it the next day. I am embarrassed that I didn't post at all.
my sender, @edhizdeid deserved better. So here it goes. first weekend-
beautiful day 2 fridays ago. Opened this crowler of big malty hoppy IPA. crazy balanced for the alcohol content.
Boneyard- Notorius. New tick for me. It was tasty but I was buzzing after drinking it.
day 2 was pretty acidic but there was some apparent fruit. seeing the cap and knowing the animal theme, I guessed it was pear bear. I had PB a year or so ago and it was much more acidic than this, so I wasnt sure.
and I was right. this is drinking really well or this is a different batch. was a nice sipper.
day 3 was hard to nail down. i guessed it was smoked because of some of the phenolics. I couldnt guess what style. had some esters and was thin. so assumed porter or some mellow belgian style.
smoked baltic porter from a brewery I had never heard of and french speaking. appropriate coming from ed! really good and alcohol heat was gone. very unique and delicious beer.
thanks for the first weekend Ed! second weekend being posted now.
now onto the last 3 days and still a week late posting, but better than 2 weeks I guess ha
adjunct day and I couldnt pick one out. I got tons of chocolate, but assumed it was from the stout base because it was incorporated so well.
well I was kinda right. another brewery I was not aware of, but this was so good. so much cacao and mellow barrel. would recommend for sure.
tough wax to get off of this one. day 5 was another tasty stout for 'IRS' day. i was guessing smoked again. I feel like I am getting used to that character when it warms.
wow. I have tried other bo and lukes and this was by far my favorite one. It was from 2014 so maybe I just need it with age. This one also has mint and rosemary, but that did not come through for me. Didnt need it though. the base is well done and drinking really well.
Day 6. wow. Eddy went on the light route for me. this beer was phenomenal- immediately was on par with casey saison, SP SdF, and other wine barrel mixed ferment saisons. this was more white wine forward than the others but the acidity level was spot on. Would drink a case of these.
Holy Mountain- The Gray Tower. I need more holy mountain in my life. Blown away. and chappelles new stand up was pretty amazing too.
such a great end to a great 6 days. makes me more embarrassed that I did not post sooner.
heres the final kill shot. @edhizdeid was such a generous sender. thanks again!
@smanson56 will post pron probably tomorrow AM. Hit those Barreled Souls beer. Man they were good but at 15% glad I had the guys there to help me with them. We all dug them a ton!!! I was shocked actually how much I liked the Tequila one!
Round 12 day 2 sees two beers. Both are corked and caged. I'd guess FW, at least i hope so...
Bottle a has fw cork. Look at the color. Thought it might be bones, but taste not right. Love it...
And the reveal. SLOambic!
@campa86 hitting If hard. I Love these FW. Day 2b is another. Skipping right to the reveal...
I think this is a 2014 vintage!
Then 2 Locals decided to tag team my porch. Identical 3-shippers!
First, @vitaminvert sending me Casey and 2 crowlers of weldwerks coconut!
Thanks Andrew. Love it. Going to share with the pbm tomorrow!
And @PeterR seems this gem. Includes Another coconut beer! You'd think i make a big deal about coconut or something...
Thanks Pete. So awesome.
What freaking glass is that? Kinda digging it
18th St brewery.
That's what I figured at first but it is one I've never seen. Must be an old one
@smanson56 hit me up with the NTP box. It was a heavy hitter. No beer was under 15%, including the Take a Beer, Leave a Beer, beer. So I called some of the guys together to try these all, since they are new ticks for all of us, not one of us had even heard of Barreled Souls before then, however, afterwords we are all very Impressed with them!!!
The first 5 beers were their Deep Space. All different treatments.
We did the Rum one first, which I figured might be my least favorite only because I have never been overly happy with Rum aged beers.
This one was very good. It was a little on the sweeter side but had very nice flavor. Sweet caramel thing going on. Good stuff!
Hillrock was next. This one was good, pretty oaky, slightly boozy but never too hot. Very nice beer, has some chocolate smoke thing going on. I liked the Woodford slightly more but two of the guys liked this one more than the Woodford.
This one was wood, bourbon and chocolate galore. Never once would you think it was 15%. I thought it was smoother than the Hillrock.
This might have been the standout for me. I was shocked at how much I liked this one. The tequila barrel really shined through on the big, dark, robust base beer. It had a nice woody, smoky mezcal type thing going on. Delicious.
The coffee vanilla was the last Deep Space we had, I don't know if I was expecting more or what but I liked the other ones more than this one. This was still good but I think the other treatments were better. The coffee might have been a little too bitter for my liking and I wanted more Vanilla, but otherwise it was still pretty darn tasty, it just didn't shine as much as the rest.
Last but not least Teotihuacan.
This was really tasty. The heat was wonderful. It was definitely Pepper Hot, but that was washed away with a nice chocolate flavor. This was really nice.
Finally the Take a Beer Leave a Beer. I shared this with some of the guys the following day.
Thank you again @smanson56 what a fun and great experience.
I will be posted a new NTP soon!!
Would like to continue this growing tradition after the more than generous box I received from @smanson56 it's my turn to run an NTP Box. The rules:
The Locals “New Ticks” Parallel (NTP) Box
Every area of the country has a brewery that gets a ton of well-deserved hype, but doesn’t distribute out of state – or distribute at all, in some cases. There are also breweries that are putting out delicious brews that get little to no hype, but locals swear by their beer. This box will include beers from both types of breweries, hence “Parallel” – two horizontals, if you will.
Now, here’s the real twist – Among other criteria (listed below), the only way you are eligible to receive this box is if you’ve had 3 or fewer beers from the “Main Brewery” listed by the sender. If you’ve had more than 3, but they were all sample pours of an ounce or two, it is at the discretion of the sender if you qualify. This is the “New Ticks” portion of the box, the idea being to spread the love and get great beer into the hands of people who haven’t been lucky enough to try anything from a great brewery.
Since it seems Danny, Rob and myself pretty much cover most of you guys in Voodoo, I am going with another local brewery to me that I don't think many of you guys had. I really enjoy a lot of they do! -
Origin - Pennsylvania
Main Brewery: Lavery Brewing Company
What’s in the Box?!??!
The NTP box is intentionally reasonably sized (6-10 beers max), and will include 4 parts:
1. Several offerings from the “Main Brewery”.
2. A couple offerings from an unannounced “Unheralded Local Brewery”.
3. Swag from at least one, if not both breweries.
4. A “Take a beer, Leave a beer” Box.
The “Take a beer, Leave a beer” box:
This box will include 3 cellarable beers, and is like that penny tray at your local gas station. As the NTP box arrives with each new recipient, they will have the option to take 1 (and only 1) beer to drink or cellar for future consumption – absolutely no trading or forwarding, however much you might want to. If the recipient takes a beer from this box, they must replace it with something worthy of the traveling box. These beers don't need to be local, just awesome.
Rules / How it Works:
This traveling box is open to all Locals, as well as certified lurkers who have successfully participated in other major BIF rounds here on Beer Advocate. Recipient must not have received the NTP box previously.
Sender announces their “Main Brewery” and sign ups remain open for a specified length of time. This brewery must not distribute out of state, and must be worthy of being the focus of the traveling box.
Interested participants who meet the criteria (Be honest. No deleting UnTappd check-ins!) must message the sender, and once sign-ups have ended the sender selects a target at random.
Sender will keep the “winning” participant secret, and ship within a reasonable amount of time. BIF-style hints encouraged.
Once the box lands, the Recipient now becomes the next sender. They should add a local sticker/label/etc… to the inside of the box and reopen sign-ups for the next round when ready (3-4 weeks max).
If at any time there are no interested sign-ups, or the exterior box is on its last legs, the current sender will ship back to the originator of the box (@RuckIt).
BM me with "NTP Box" in the title. Include your shipping address, shirt size, swag preference, and what (if anything) you've had from the "Main Brewery". If there are any "do-not-ship" dates, include that info too! I will close this down next Sunday (4/30/17)
Cheers Locals #L4L
Last call for Murder Marry Screw. Winner will be drawn this afternoon/evening.
Love the genie bottles.
Did I miss the posting?
Also I was ninja'd by @UcDru with what could be the greatest ninja ever.
5 madtree beers and #DATGLASS!!! Including Axis Mundi and 2 variants which as you all know I absolutely love. If this box only had #datglass I would have been over the moon but nope it had 5 madtree and 2 weyerbacher beers which is a brewery favorite and other beers which are all new ticks.
And since I was cleaning the office/twins rooms/beer cellar I made sure to break in #datglass with some proper beers.
Citra > Galaxy IMO with these beers.
Another box I'm not worthy of for sure. Also the wife has been pushing me a bit to downsize the cellar until we move into a bigger place since we have twins on the way so I've spent the past few weeks drinking down beers and thinking of ways to get rid of beers which includes trying to ninja and wishlist some folks so make sure to add me on untapped Mcmastersanchez so I can stalk you for ninja boxes
Thanks again @UcDru for #datglass even if it is not trending the way it was a while back. I feel like part of the group now lol
So glad you enjoyed them Tommy. And actually I also thought the coffee and vanilla blend was probably my least favorite. I also just got back from Barreled Souls about an hour ago as they released there BA Munro today (a scottish wee heavy aged in bourbon barrels and also one aged in a single malt whiskey barrel) I was able to get an extra allotment as the girlfriend was kind enough to tag along today. So a couple bottles may be showing up somewhere when people least expect it.
@MCMASTERSANCHEZ go find it. Going to close soon.
