The Locals HINTS AND HAULS THREAD

I guess I could probably look back to past rounds... but what is normal for hint giving? One a day? One every few days? Starting vague/getting more specific? I'm a complete noob at this and don't want to give it away super fast but also don't want to leave my target completely unknowing

 

Anywhere from multiple times a day to a few times a week has been seen during this thread. I usually do a hint a day. And generally the hints do go from vague to more specific. I tend to give it away with my last hint. Some people even give away the tracking number via hints.

 

Hint #2: My target has more beers rated then I, but less wants!

To my target, I hope your wants are current

To my shipper, my wants are kind of just a guideline, and I will be happy regardless.

 

Really depends on what you want to do. Most people do really like the slow-roll, so don't like to make it too easy. Some of us try to work out the targets/senders for everyone, which can get pretty crazy as well I tried last round to get it down to 1 person by my last clue, which was given around the same damn as I sent. Plus don't forget box content clues if you want to toss those out as well.

There isn't one right answer though.

 

Sounds pretty good, I was probably going to go with the suggestion of @EA728 and do one a day either until I A) ship or B) have pretty much already given it away (as this is my first I don't know how vague I'll be able to stay, but I'm gonna try!)

 

I'll be there as well, I'm sure we'll run into each other Only session I'm doing this year since I'm going to WTF? and Rare Beer as well.

 

I always try to draw it out and structure it so every hint eliminates a few people. Like some of the other guys, I normally try and figure out all the sender/target pairs. And you will see some common themes (compare state size or population, comments about sports teams) but some guys are very creative. One of the hard things at the end is filtering out multiple potential targets within a state.

Hint #1 Shipping south
Hint #2 The city I am shipping to has fewer letters in it than my city

 

So your shipping to georgia or florida...I think...

 

Welp, Texas is getting out of this one.

 

NC is south of MD as well.

Do also keep in mind that direction can be... a bit generic at times. Texas is definitely south of Maryland. On my grid I usually assume people are being misleading. For example, I don't have OH marked off for @_RL_ as parts of OH are further south than parts of MD (since I don't actually know where either of them live) and that would be south (okay, mostly west, but still a bit south)...

Yep -- I usually interpret directionally hints as "not the opposite". So "shipping south from Maryland" could be any of the ones you mentioned, and even possibly Colorado or Kentucky (or Southern California).

 

I didn't want to show the full extent of my paranoia, but yeah, I don't have CA marked off for _RL_.

 

I also forgot how "educational" some of these posts are. Of course I only remember the more useless ones (and forget those soon enough anyway). I know there was one a while back about state vegetables and stuff like that.

 

Alright, now that I'm home from work, time to backtrack and update my spreadsheet!

 

Looks like I picked the wrong day to drive eight hours home to Michigan. Like ^^^ I'll have to go back and create a spreadsheet at some point. The good news for my target is I stopped a couple times on the way home and picked up a couple of your wants.

Hint #1: Shipping West

To my sender: I'll probably update wants soonish but I'm one of the least picky drinkers out there. I like to tick all beers and repeatedly drink good beers. If you send it, I'll drink and enjoy it. I promise.

Hint #1--I will be shipping to the South.

To my target--as a newbie with limited feedback, I'd be happy to ship early if you prefer (that is if you discover who you are first...). Otherwise, I'll probably ship in the early 20's of Oct. (so that I am a little early...).

To my sender, my wants are similar to EA278--If a brewery sounds interesting, I try to "want" a few of their beers. My wants are slimish now, but that's also because I like most styles and want to try as many beers that are out of my distro as possible. If you think that it is awesome, I'd like to try it. (But, I wouldn't turn down a whale either...)
