So if you go by batch numbers the next batch would be #5, but I've seen it called batch 6. Which is correct?
I see that now, although Vinnie says it won't be Batch 5 as he is now using a bottled on date. Batch 5 or bottled on 011012, either way I look forward to trying it.
It is commonly referred to as Batch 5. However, it is the 6th different bottle of Beatification, as the portion of Batch 1 aged in a spent La Folie barrel (or something similar) was referred to as PH1. Someone please correct me if I got a detail wrong in there, but that should explain the reasoning for the 5/6 numbers you've heard.
I love the idea of switching to bottled on dates instead, although I'd be just as happy with a batch number and bottling date.
I think the batch 5/batch 6I think it's just a typo that got perpetuated in ISO:FT posts Some of the first batch of Beatification was aged in a barrel that Peter Brouckart from New Belgium had labeled PH1. This barrel reputedly made the tastiest batches La Folie. These bottles were labeled Batch001-PH1.
To add to Soonami's post: Batch 1 was Redemption aged in La Folie barrels for 23 months. IIRC, Vinnie received two La Folie barrels from New Belgium when NB was moving away from barrels and towards foeders for La Folie. One of these was named/labelled PH1, which Lauren Salazar and the rest of NB claimed to have produced the best batches of La Folie, and there was enough of a difference between the two barrels that they were labeled differently (apart from the 001-PH1 designation, the text blurb on the bottle is different) and priced differently (PH1 was $1 or so pricier)
