    we need answers

Batch of KRBC Just Outstanding is making the rounds. Snagged a bottle from Lazy Acres. Doesn't taste as good as normally though...maybe an off bottle or batch?

Maybe Green Flash is brewing it for KRBC...

JO doesn't hold up to the new wave of IPA's. Simple as that. It use to be very good, in its time.

I think it still taste just outstanding. Last bottle I had was from the brewery 4 weeks ago. Yes there are alot of great IPA's these days. But JO is still jo.

"The new wave of ipa's"? Have I missed this? Are there new hops being developed from alien dna? Do they have moon rocks? Princess Diana ashes? I dont understand how a great beer that is still great is now just ok because something shiny and new has come along. I guess SNPA must suck now.

JO is like pliny. Those 2 were the grandfathers of great IPA's back 6-7 years ago. Okay, the Big 3 from Alpine. Maybe i can throw in Blind Pig too. But there wasn't much choices back then. I remember I used to be able to buy 3 (three) bottles of pliny for 3.99 ea. And it was sitting on the cooler shelf. Same thing with JO. The Alpine bottles were still tucked away at Alpine and a few local places in SD. So that one was very hard to acquire. So the 2 I ended up seeking were JO and pliny. I still buy bottles of JO and pliny when it's available and I happen to be at my local. I would never go out searching for it. I can pick up a bottle of Hammerland or Lupulin River or a Showers almost anyway of the week. But I could never have enough JO or pliny.

Any date? I know they don't throw the dates on the bottles. Only case it came in. Asking because when I was up at Kern a month ago they had sent out a bunch of cases down to Bakersfield that wasn't up to par. I had a bottle (Tuesday $2 special) that came from those bottles. It was just okay. But the bottles inside the cooler were spot on. Wondering if those Just Okay cases made it's way down to the LA/OC area.

There are new hops being developed every year? Maybe not from your exaggerated sources, but this is a real thing that happens in beer. Are you new to the IPA concept? A beer brewed with older hop varieties can still be "good" (like SNPA), however, I'd never buy SNPA over Grunion. Hell, Stone just demonstrated this exact thinking with their revamps of Pale and Ruination.

The last bottle I had was so unimpressive I skipped it when I saw it again this week. We had SO MANY great IPAs/DIPAs come out recently, I just figured it wasn't holding up to those in comparison. Now I'm hearing it might have been an off batch so I suppose I'll give it another shot down the road. Even when JO is "on," though, I still prefer Pliny--and I prefer a dozen other IPAs to Pliny.

I opened up a bottle a few days ago of JO from a case dated 4/7/15. I actually thought it tasted better than usual. Go figure.

This is an interesting idea -- that certain beers don't hold up over time (and a few other posters have touched on it here, incl. note of Stone's Pale/Ruination revamp). I don't know what my feelings are about it. However, I'd be interested to hear of beers you think have held up really well. Hope that didn't come off confrontational -- I'm legitimately interested in trying to understand what makes a beer hold up or not, and some examples of ones that do might be helpful.

I'm also interested in learning more about this concept. Because, I mean, yeah, over the course of your beer adventure, your tastebuds will change to different flavor profiles. I know I can't enjoy a Fat Tire anymore, but loved it when I first stepped into this world of high class shit. But for me, JO is just a solid all around awesome beer that I can chug back, and have been chugging back since before Citra hit it big and it could be found on the shelf. The price point is also amazing for the quality.

That's like saying "Nut punches just isn't funny anymore to me now that I know about George Carlin" Sure, it's not going to be the same, but I can go back to laugh at a junk shot even after enjoying more sophisticated humor.

Cullver City Bevmo, had Green Flash Silva and Modern times Blackhouse w/Coconut still on the shelves.

Not the 2 newest beers, but my local spots had 1 bottle limits on those, good find for anyone that missed out.
